Feature Requests - Call Recording, Call Logs Reports, &

Post by callmin »

Here is a list of feature requests that we would love to see in this product.

1. Call Recording - Ability to record calls while on the phone and play as wav or other media type for later references.

2. Call Log Reports - Online call reports to monitor calls.

3. Voicemail to Email notification (attachments)

4. Follow Me or Multiple forwards (ring 5 lines at same time)

5. A business USB Box / MagicServer for businesses needing 20+ lines.

6. Phone Number Extensions - 1. sales, 2. support, 3. accounting etc. (in a house: room 1, room 2, room 3, etc)

7. ACD/IVR - with programmable prompts

Well to record calls I have a solution.
I think the call forwarding is follow me.
yes they do send an email when you get a voicemail and i get attachments.
20 lines.. well i guess there is a way if people get the SIP details.
same thing for " phone number extensions"
But not sure about (2) and (7).
Enjoy

Ever needed to record a phone call for some reason? Well here's how you can do it easily with your magicJack.
Needed:
magicJack (of course)
Cain & Able
5 minutes

What to do:

Start by downloading Cain & Able here: http://www.oxid.it/cain.html

Image

Now install Cain & Able. Once Cain & Able is installed another dialog box will come up about the winpcap driver. INSTALL THIS! Its what monitors network traffic (and is what will find our voip stream).

You should now start Cain & Able. Click the Start/Stop packet sniffer button at the top. The first time you click this it will ask what device to monitor. Select the device that you use to connect to the internet.:

Image

Now click the Sniffer tab on the top tab set. On this new page click the VOIP tab on the bottom tab set:

Image

Now all you have to do is pick up the phone and make a call. After the phone starts ringing you should see a line pop up in the sniffer window about the phone call (Connecting IPs and such). Cain will continue to automatically record the call until you hang up. To listen to the recorded audio right click it and click play.:

The audio clips themselves can be found in C:\Program Files\Cain\Voip\ in .wav format.

This method is easy and effective. One cool thing is that your side is recorded on the left audio channel while the person your calling is recorded on the right channel. This makes it easy to separate them if you edit them in a application like Audacity. You could also mix both channels down so you only have one.

Enjoy!

just courious do you expect these features with the 19.95 dollar a year price tag? Perhaps they will come out with a business class product.

BTW: You can do all these features and more with Asterisk.. There are plenty of providers that offer VOIP trunks cheap.

Bear in mind that recording a phone call without consent is a felony in many states.

I appreciate all of the time and effort that went into posting everything about Cain and Abel. I downloaded it but can't get it to do what you say it will do.

Can you tell me how to get this to record the incoming sounds without having to use speakers and an external microphone? I am having problems configuring this software to record magicjack calls.

Comments on the OP's issues #1 and #3.

re: call recording, probably because I already had the digital recorder, I plugged a splitter into the phone side of the MagicJack, and hung my phone off of one splitter port, and the digital recorder off of the other. No problems at all. And, I live in a state where it is legal. There are state-by-state phone recording laws charts on the net--just do a search.

re: MJ's voicemail to e-mail notification, mine was not working. I was not receiving the .wav attachments to my e-mail account, and went through MJ tech chat. The 1st guy had no clue and wanted to run their latest "upgrade" software. When I explained I was running my thin client headless (without a monitor, keyboard or mouse) and would have to hook up all that first, he chickened out and passed me up to a 2nd level tech--who asked permission to wipe my voicemail files. I happily said yes. I was instructed to wait about 30 minutes and try a test voicemail to my MJ phone number. That worked. Suddenly I started receiving the e-mail notifications of VM messages.

I don't know if that method will solve everybody's VM notification problems--all I know is that it worked in my case.

Yours,

I've mentioned this before, but I'm a proponent of Wireshark for recording MJ conversations. My original use was for MJ QC, so channel separation was desirable when I was having echo problems. BTW, it's also free.

Have you tried http://www.calln.com ?
It is all automatic and doesn't require skills with wireshark.
A standard mp3 file is created.

Magicjack simply uses the standard SIP protocol.
