call forwarding

Post by boatman37210 »

Rather than have two cell phones, one personal and one business, I want to buy MagicJack and have it forwarded to the one cell phone I presently have. I want my cell phone to recognize MagicJack calls and have a distinctive ring so I know that it is a MagicJack call.

Can you have the caller ID show up on my cell as my magicjack number on all magicjack calls and tag that number in my cell to a unique sound?

Personal calls I would answer one way and business calls I would answer another, but I need to know the difference.

Any way this can be done using MagicJack?

Thanks.

Yes, but that would be something you'd set up within your cell phone...nothing to do with MJ or it's settings.

Thanks for the response.

What caller id will show up on my cell phone when I forward my magicjack to it? Is it the callers id or the magicjack number? I know some internet phone services allow you to state which you want to show up. Does magicjack allow you to do that?

Again, thanks for your help.

Unfortunately Biscuit is wrong. Calls forwarded from MJ will show as the caller's number and there is no provision to change that. So you would not be able to set a specific ringtone for MJ calls.

There is two ways of making this happen. Best way is if you have a Grand Central acct, the incoming call shows up as the Grand Central number.. Problem being.. If you don't have that account, you ain't gonna get one soon.. They have not opened up their doors to new users in 5 months or more.. I do hear that some of the invites are being sold on ebay, but I am not sure. Or, wait for them to offer new invites. Nobody's talking on that one for when ...That being the best way to make it happen.. then there is ringbranch.com this is an ad based free phone minute thing that gives you 1000 mins a month in and outgoing, the only thing is that when you make a call out, you gotta listen to 2 short ads.. If someone calls in, they have to listen to a short ad. Being a buisness call, that may not be the best image, unless you give your friends the ringbranch number and the buisness calls the actual cell number.. The RB number can be set up to show the ringbranch number when receiving, also when calling out.. You can have the MJ number forward to the RB so that it is still a local call for your friends, So.. cell number for the business.. no ads.. Friends have to hear the ads.. whatcha thank?? Shocked Maybe one more way..tho..If you have the ability to give all your friends a rintone or individual Rtones, then just make the business calls have a ringtone set up just for the buis.. give your buis contacts the MJ and have it come into the cell and ring that special ring, Make sure that if you get a call from a friend on the buis r tone, that you immediately assign it a ringtone..Its late and I don't know if that makes a whole lot of sense.I think I've confused me  .Hope you get it..

Thanks for the responces.

I may try Msiam's last suggestion of assigning a ringtone to my non-business callers. Sounds like a major chore, but I would think after while I should be able to get at least 95% of personal callers assigned.

I signed up for Grand Central a few days ago. Your right. That would be the best way to go. Decided though I could be waiting for some time before that happened. Decided to order the Magicjack. Figured it was worth a gamble for just $40 bucks. If it doesn't work out to my satisfaction, the hardest part from what I've read is getting it off my system.

Thanks again.
