Hydrogen Fuel Cells for Cars

Post by magicjackjoe »

Do any of the inovators at this site have an personal knowledge about hydrogen fuel cells - anyone have one installed on their car? Thanks.

From what I've heard - they are still only completely experimental because it's hard to get and liquefy hydrogen, and the storage is a problem due to it being the smallest molecule which tends to leak. Some of the environmental activists think industry pushes for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles because they are so impractical - making their implementation if any - way down the road - maybe decades: giving industry and excuse for not implementing electric cars.

At least that's one side of it.

Electric cars have been impractical too since battery technology was very poor for years. But now with Ni-MH and lithium ion, it would be possible to make consumer vehicles to have 100 miles range, which would be good for most people most of the time.

I'm keeping an eye on this car and see if it ever comes to pass:

They say they'll be making a hybrid version too which they claim will give you 300 mpg (which probably means 100 mpg) which would be most practical.

GM is suppose to be making a fully electric car as well. And plug in hybrids are going to become standard I think.

Believe it or not...

you can make your own hydrogen fuel cell generator...
I use one on my vehicle to assist the gas engine..I get approx 65 mpg.
Search out the plans..easy to make ...just follow through in what you do..anything is possible..also you can add pure acetone to your fuel, 2oz's per 10 gal of gas

Oh yes do NOT get the acetone on your paint..lol
Also the process is very similiar to electralosis.
What happens when you cook the water with electricity..hydogen is released, the hydrogen is then transfered to the intake, by means of the vacuum tube into the carb, so instead of just air being sucked into the carb
you get the hydrogen air mix, this will assist the gas, it is possible to just use the hydrogen, but I could only get the car to idle, when I accelerated the pedal it bogged down and stalled..I will have to build a bigger cell.
Just google this subject and on youtube and you will see different ways..but it all boils down to using electricity to cook the water(I use distilled water, this keeps the plates clean..)
Search it out..too much to type the whole thing out... :-)
God Bless The Power Of The Internet!!!

some material i used
stainless steel
voltage current off the alternator, this can be amped up by other means
the stainless steel is used for the plates to cook the water
distilled water leaves less residue, less impuraties
if you increase voltage you get more results
I use half inch plexi glass for the box
dimensions of box is approx 10 inches by 5, 7 inches deep.

excuse the spelling...lol I am better at mechanics/science than english

Hey Lisa,
I did a little searching around after reading your post and found a ton of info. You mind sharing a little more as to what you used or how you did it? I love the idea!

You certainly want to be careful using acetone, it will destroy your cars finish if you spill it.

Make sure the acetone is mixed well or it could damage your fuel system. Don't get any on your hands, it can burn your skin. Probably not a real good idea unless your are experienced in handling potentially dangerous chemicals.

I just sniffed the acetone and I went straight to the moon without using any gas

Acetone, the foundation of any good chemistry set!
There are 10 different kinds of people in the world. There are those who understand binary, and those who don't.

Converting water into hydrogen and oxygen sounds cool, but it is going to consume more energy than can be converted into pushing your car down the road. Even if the reaction were to be completely lossless, the net energy gain would be exactly zero. This is a chemical reaction, so the laws that govern this reaction are the conservation of matter, and the conservation of energy.

Figure out how to cold-fuse the hydrogen, then you really have something!

Acetone is just the stuff women use for fingernail polish remover, I've used it to clean tools and remove labels from plastic containers, its not as dangerous as it sounds..
