Temporary Porting Suggestions - Help!

Post by caudill22 »

I am sold on magicJack, however I do not want to give up my current local number with Vonage. Since I cannot port to magicJack yet, does anyone have a suggestion for temporary porting? I am looking for a cheap service where I could port my number until magicJack allows porting. If the service would allow free call forwarding that would even be better! I have done some searching on Google, however it seems like some of the services out there are kind of expensive ($10 to $20 per month). At that price I might as well keep Vonage until magicJack allows porting. I know GrandCentral is not allowing new sign ups, so any suggestions would really be appreciated. :D

I'm not sure about the free call forwarding part but http://www.onesuite.com/ has a $2.95 month plan and voip.com has a softphone plan for $3.95 a month. I'm not sure if numbers can be ported to onesuite but voip.com has free porting.

johnnyboy, I meant call forwarding from the hosting company that I port the my Vonage number to, not magicJack. But thanks for the help.

Infact, I forward my 2 voip.com lines to magicjack on the weekends and don't think there was ever any charges for that. I use xlite/eyebeam during working hours.

One suites "Suite Advantage" is a pretty good choice.. You can port your number free, there is no contract, and it is fairly cheap. at $2.95 a month and I think the whole thing will cost you $17 to get started, but $10 of that is for prepaying outgoing calls If you are going to keep your number and still be able to port it away that is about as good as you can do. the out going rate is about 2.5c a min. but incoming calls are free, to call forward would go by the out gong rate. All in all , a good place to park your # .. It is set up on a soft phone but, there are also ways to put your service on an ata if you have the know how.. there are threads here that talk about that.. I believe you can get that info by doing a search on the forum. that way your calls will still come into your home on regular house phone, and then you can make your outgoiing calls using your MJ.. Good luck..
