866 number being dialed at night by MJ on it's own

Post by hairr »

Okay I have a very scary situation here.
I noticed night before last that my MJ was trying to dial a number while I was on the computer. Everyone was asleep and I did not dial this. I thought maybe I hit a button or something and dismissed this. It happened 3 times.

Now when I look at my calls list this morning I find that this number was dialed again last night while the the two of us were asleep.

This makes me very nervous to think that someone may be trying to hack in. I called this number and sounds like a computer!!!

I contacted MJ chat and all I was told was to unplug the MJ and plug into a different USB port.

Has anyone else had this happen to them???

This is the number that it dials, the call lasted 44 sec only

Indeed if that happened on my pc I would be scared too. Sounds like your pc is infected with a trojan/virus or something that's allowing someone to use your pc remotely.

Do you have dish network? I'm thinking about getting dish network and wanting to hook the boxes up to my magicjack to avoid the $5 phone fee per box. Since it seems that your box is dialing out I guess that means it works. Have you noticed any problems with call quality degredation with these recievers hooked up (someone else here said that happend)?

My DirecTV box makes about 10 calls per day to 1-800 and 1-866 #s and every once in awhile the modem connection is successful :)

I mainly keep it connected for the caller ID information.

It's not perfect but I like my MJ. :D

I had a similar issue when I first got MJ, only it was dialing a local number, you can check the link below for the full story.

It turned out to be something strange with the new phone I bought. I replaced the phone and the dialing out stopped. It was just plain weird.
It could also be an alarm system if you have one and your MJ is connected to a phone jack in your house.

Thanks everyone, turned out that it is the dish reciver calling out. Talked to dish and they said
24DrDcb) Rebekah C: the number the receiver is calling is our call collector
(24DrDcb) Rebekah C: so that is fine

I have had no problems with call quality at all having my reciever hooked into this.

I just ran a splitter off my phone into the wall jack so I could hook it up.
Cannot use the wall jacks in my house alone for the phone as there is too much noise even with a DSL filter (expensive one at that). It wont hang up correctly.

I noticed mine start to call 1-900-hot-girl in the wee hours while my wife was asleep!
