Recurring 'Error 4' Canada

Post by luxton »

Hi Group

I recently received my MJ which installed with no problem on XP2. On computer boot up it works well, however after a few minutes it gives me the Error 4 warning, and following the prompt doesn't clear the error. A Menu/Advanced User/Restart will get it going again for a short while, then error reoccurs. Additionally, after one LD call, it often returns to the error 4 requiring yet another restart. Frustrating if I want to make back-to-back calls. A mis dialed number (<> 10 characters) will often cause the error too. I understand from reading the forum 'Error 4' is a lost contact with the server. Various voip tests on my BB service indicate no problems should be encountered.

This isn't too much of a bother as I will only be using MJ for LD, and will terminate the program (Ctrl/Alt/Delete - End Application) until I need it, then load again using the Icon.

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Most likely you need to upgrade.

It can be found here http://upgrades.magicjack.com/upgrade/upgrade.exe

Now if you check the file version you'll see that it is 1.80.4471.3124. For simplicity we call it version 3124.

This has cured many error 4 problems, MJ has made some major changes with how a call gets routed in this new software. :)

P.S. also check the other two page Error 4 thread, They are changing some of the IP settings and addresses.

Good luck!

Thanks for advice Matt but.....

[font=Arial] Thanks Mattxxxx but already using that version, just recently installed MJ and did upgrade at same time.

I found lonestarmagics post quoted below and followed the instructions. Now when I click 'connect to Internet error 4 etc' I no longer access the 'You are already Registered' then fast loop back to the 'error 4', instead I receive a message stating the server is down temporarily and advises to reload MJ as detailed in the quote. Thank you lonestarmagic.

However either the servers are going down often or I still have a problem, I am still receiving far too many 'error 4's. At least now I'm past the loop and can see the message screen.

If your having probs with error 4, try this:

Go to control panel then click on Network connections. In there right click on your active Internet connection and select properties, scroll down to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click it, then click on properties. In there check the little circle that says use the following DNS Server address. In preffered DNS Address type in: 67.90.152.122, click ok, and ok. Now restart your magicJack by going to menu, advanced user, and restart, on your magicJack dialpad.

Second Request

Post by luxton »

Someone must have an idea about 'error 4' please??? Very briefly after doing the DNS thing as mentioned above I received the proper 'server down' message, then back to the loop as detailed in my original query. Have since removed DNS and searched computer for any suspect processes. I'm not using a router so this problem should be rather straightforward. When MJ active, LD conversations for up to 1 hour have had good success... it's only when the program is not in actual use in a 'standby' or reduced to task bar status that the error seems to occur.

HELP
