MagicJack Causes Application to Stop Functioning

Post by Roozie »

Folks!

For the most part, my magicJack has been performing very well. I have a Dell laptop, DSL 6 MB speed, a Hawkings booster operating on a wireless lan to a Linksys wireless router running Tomato firmware. All QoS is turned off within Windows XP and the router. The Hawkings Broadband booster bears the QoS burden for all network activity. However, operationally, this is what's happening.

When I start to execute certain applications when the MagicJack is operating, the application often just hangs and it is almost impossible to kill it, even with the Task Manager. The most common applications halting have been Microsoft Excel and Adobe Acrobat. To clear the problem, I have to reboot the machine.

If I have the applications up and working THEN start MagicJack, I do not seem to have any problems with application hangups!

Anyone else experiencing these weird problems? Any solutions that I should incorporate within Windows XP to give any priorities to any applications. I have set magicJack to run as a service, so I do not know if that is necessarily the cause. Please advise. Thanks!

Hi,

I have had a few weird app issues myself. What I have seen is the following:

1) when shutting down the PC, ccsvchost (part of Norton e360) hangs, and I have to use the End Process button to kill it and get the PC to shutdown. If I have not loaded MJack, this problem does not happen on shutdown.

2) I noticed MediaMonkey (my music library/player) does not end its process when I close the program (typical file->exit, of clicking the "X". The process, and the memory it had allocated remains active. If I have not loaded MJack, this problem does not occur when closing MediaMonkey.

3) An odd problem with my Canon USB scanner. The buttons on the scanner (for Copy, Print, Email) will work the first time I try them after a reboot. Any subsequent attempts fail. Honestly, I am not 100% sure there is a relation to MJ here, but I never had this problem in the past. This problem does still occur even when I do not load MagicJack.

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?? I love the MJ, but if it messes up these other applications (in ways that are detrimental to continued, efficient operation of the OS, I may have to dump it.
