satellite internet

Post by sjones3420 »

Hello,
I've been getting conflicting opinions on this , and I need a definitive answer. Will magicjack work with satellite internet specifically Hughesnet? Thank you for any help you can provide.

Nope. First, you'll have to deal with the latency that will make your call garbled. After you start fuming over the quality, Hughes will give you one of those cute little love taps and send your surfing speed into the gutter for a full 24 hours thanks to their new FAP policy. Been there and done that.

satellite question

Post by dynofan »

I bought MJ in March and for the most part, it has worked well. A couple of times the service was down; waited a few days and it operated just fine again. I'm at a
loss because I'm hearing-impaired and the mj setup worked better than my regular phone. I have also had Direct Dish all that time. Now I hear satellite doesn't
work? What has changed? I actually had a MJ technician tonight that I have had before, told him what I had tried; and he as much said, "What do you want me
to do?" Needless to say, I'm still livid!!!!

I'm no 'techie', but I can follow directions, and I'm about ready to try anything!

Have been in the Hughesnet & Wildblue business for awhile now.

Owned Hughesnet 6000 for three years.

About three years back Net2phone would work on Hugesnet with a big delay,But they changed something about two years ago that basically killed VoIP.

I would not recommend to even try VoIP over a sat connection. You will not be happy in the long run.

WOW.......Quicker reply than from the 'Official site!' Ok, if it worked before, I guess I can assume they've done something to block satellite access. At this point I'm
willing to try anything. Also, is it a coincidence that after all the 'putzing' that mymain tv doesn't work?G-e-e-e-e-e-s-s-s-h!!!

Any other ideas? I did try dial up, but there wasn't enough power.

I'd think it's more likely your satellite service has blocked your attempts to use VoIP rather than MJ blocking satellite service. You can't get point to point wireless internet (WDSL) in your neck of the woods?

H-m-m-m-m-m...... You're right about woods; "back woods!" Don't know what's available out here. Can only get a cell signal if I stand up, real still!

satellite and internet don't mix

Post by steve1975 »

satellite internet is terrible, network technology is based on having a physical line at all times and satellite violates that principle.
