I Love the MJ: should I disconnect my regular ATT line???

Post by witelite »

:?: Well, we LOVE our MJ!! We are ready to take the next step in our plan to save money which is to call up ATT and tell them although we would like to keep their internet service, we won't be needing their phone service any longer. This is a big step for us.... We have ATT highband service (I guess that's why our MJ is working now).

Does anyone have any thoughts on this???

some people say "don't disconnect", but then why did I get MJ in the first place??? We only make local calls, no need for long distance services with or without MJ.

your advice would be most appreciated.

If you don't mind losing your home number and you have reliable cell service then yeah, I'd disconnect personally. Without a cell phone or in a bad cell area? Not a chance!

I agree - don't disconnect your local service unless you've got good cell phone connectivity as a backup. I've had MJ for about 6 months and when it works (other than #%$#@ echo) it usually works fine. But there are times when I get a stuttered ring and voice is unintelligible. I've also had times when they just take the whole system down and I can't make any calls. There have also been times when their servers were not reachable making MJ useless. I put up with it because its a great (cheap) way for me to make LD calls whenever I want to and since cell coverage in my house leaves much to be desired. But MJ has a long way to meet Ma Bell's reliability.

I don't recommend it, but you might check into ATT's cheapest local phone service only. Even though it is probably $20, don't forget to add all the taxes, fee, donations, contributions, etc. that they charge.

If you do drop their phone service and keep the Internet connection, your monthly rate will increase.

One way you lose, the other way you lose! Good luck.

you could always switch to measured service until magicjack is stable. i've had MJ for almost a year now and sometimes on their servers go down and then no calls. unfortunately they don't have a status page (like skype) to let you know if the system is having trouble.
