Caller ID Spoofing with New Magic Jack

Hello,

I recently bought a Magic Jack. I want to spoof the Magic Jack Number to display as my land line telephone number. I downloaded the 1.1 version of the spoofer, which is the latest i have been able to find. I know about the host file entries and the latest version seems to automatically input the entries when you choose them from the dropdown. I am able to get calls to go through the proxy however the caller id shows up as my Magic Jack number.

What is the latest version of the spoofer and does the latest spoofer work with the current version of the Magic Jack software?

If not can i downgrade to an old version of the Magic Jack Software?

Two Big updates in the past few weeks killed spoofing CID also seems to route calls differently "many people running older versions of MJ are getting error#4"

I'm sure someone will fix CID soon as they figure out what changed.

Growing pains and upgrade pains abound right now but I can tell you this, my MJ never worked better than it has the past week.

I figured this out today but its a pain in the butt. I'm using the latest upgrade from magicjack. what I do is use the first original spoofer and add all the proxy servers to my host file. When you do this it doesn't spoof unless you dial in this format *675*55-111-1111 (*67-555-111-1111) then you will notice that you cant hear the other end and they cant hear you. So When you dial out using the format above press any number on your soft phone and hit send it will start dialing then hit end and now you can hear both ends of the lines. Kinda complicated but nice if you just spoof every once in a while.

I had a feeling they must have changed something, it's good to hear that MJ is working better than ever though. The spoofing is not that big of a deal to me. Honestly i wanted to screw around with my friends, It would be cool to give them a couple of prank calls with the caller id backing me up.

Anyway it would be nice to get ahold of that C# code powering the spoofer, i would modify it to run as windows service.

Excellent. My CID spoofing is working again.

I set "proxy1.philadelphia.talk4free.com" in the hosts table on my ThinClient to point to the IP address of my regular XP box (192.168.1.10).

I then ran the spoofer software on my XP PC and setup the software to point to the IP address of my ThinClient (192.168.1.195) running the magicJack software.

I tested using this MCI phone number 800-444-4444. And it read back my spoofed CID number from the software. When I call my cell phone I have to dial the number as *678*00-444-4444

Does the fact that you are running the spoofer on a separate machine have any significance on why you were able to get the spoofer to work?

I just got my Magic Jack and have not yet been able to get the spoofing to work. I was however able to get my Magic Jack software to run as a service which Rocks.

I know that the *67 blocks the caller id. What is the second star for and how would it look if you were dialing the following 10 digit number?

Not sure what thesecond star is for but you would dial it like this *674*125551212

There is another thread that pointed me to the *67#*##-###-#### format. No idea why, but for some reason it worked.

When I originally had CID spoofing working, it would work without the *67 and second * when I called landline phones. But would not work when I called cell phone numbers. Adding the *67 and the second * made it work.

I rarely bother with the CID spoofing and was just having fun calling my friends from their S/O's phone number and then confusing the hell out of them. It especially confused my brother in law in Hawaii when I called him from his wife's phone who was asleep upstairs and I was 4000 miles away in Pennsylvania.

I call a friend of mine on his cell using his home phone number as the spoofed ID when I thought his wife was home. Just so happens she was with him at the time and he thought his house was being broken into and someone calling him from inside. He was not amused and on the verge of calling the police before he realized it was a prank.

Probably not the smartest thing I've ever done.

I don't think you can call your own phone number.
If I try to call myself, it gives me a busy signal because I'm on the phone.

It depends on the network/carrier. On Sprint, if you call your own number, it assumes you are trying to get your voicemail and puts you into it. That was weird when I called my Sprint phone using MJ, spoofing that same number. It was weird to listen to my Sprint VM on my MJ. And the implication is that you can listen to ANY Sprint customer's VM by spoofing their Sprint number using MJ (as long as they didn't put a PIN on their VM (most people don't, but I did just because of these findings))...

Could someone help me with CID spoofing. I have read through these forums and cannot seem to make heads or tails of anything. I just got my MJ and installed the update link from MJ website. What exactly do I need to do in order to begin CID spoofing?
