magicJack restarting by itself

Post by priest29 »

The mJ is restarting itself about a minute or so into phone calls, and at larger intervals when not in use. Any suggestions? (I'm running XP SP3 and tried reformatting the mJ's FAT partition, to no avail.)

Hi, MJ's higher tech told me to get a AC powered 4 port USB hub. I have one coming i bought at>www.windmilltrading.com, The site owner says he uses MJ also and it worked for him. He said my computer USB's are not putting out enough power. We will see.I'll let you know if it works. If you find out first please let me know. Don't get a 7 port hub they put out less power.

Thanks,

Monica

I posted this same problem for a friend of mine that has magicjack. It kept re-starting itself. She took the USB extension that came with the magicjack OFF and plugged directly into the USB (if you can) and that solved the problem completely! And if you're thinking it was loose, it wasn't ....she checked every cord, plugged and unplugged and it still would restart...Try it.

Yes, please let us know. I was reading that one of the reasons for MJ's 'Remove MagicJack and plug it into a different USB port" step is that standard USB ports can only provide .5 Watts of power, that's just about how much a MagicJack needs (or something).

MJ warns to plug the MJ directly into the computer, not a router, because an UNPOWERED USB router would likely have trouble (proved it on a friend's systmem, too).

Mark40511:
We experienced the same thing: faulty USB adapter. We now use a store-bought USB extender that retracts (Kind of like those key things people wear on their belts), so we can set the MagickJack anywhere nearby. So far no problems.

I'm running the same as you.I had all the same problems. You do not get enough power from your computer USB ports to operate MJ.I have xp home addition with sp3. Since i plugged my MJ into an AC powered 4 port USB Hub. I no longer have any problems with MJ. Their tech support is lacking. After i talked to them 20 times i finally had one tech guy tell me to get an AC powered USB hub. It's working for me.

Good Luck,

After nearly 4 months, my MagicJack has begun restarting itself. Could it be a power issue if it has worked well for so long until now?

Hi, That's what mine did also, but hasn't given me a problem since i bought an AC powered 4 port USB port Hub.Once in a great while it doesn't start up correctly even now(after having my computer off and rebooting )but i just unplug the MJ wait a few seconds and plug it back in and it loads and starts like it should then.
Good Luck!
