What makes you think it's AVG? I have the free version of AVG running on my laptop and it loads the MJ just fine.

Interesting. I never had that. Why not just turn off the resident shield during the install and then turn it back on?

When i do that the audio sucks and when tested it with my cell phone the ring is just a bunch of loud noise.

You might try switching to Avast Antivirus. It's free and I have not had any issues with it.

That's weird. I have AVG v8.0.168 updated as of today: 9/4/8 and when I scan autorun.exe on my MJ, it comes up with nothing: also nothing when autorun.exe is executed.

is this a false positive, or are the other AV programs just not seeing a possible threat?

Personally I'd ditch AVG and use Avast for antivirus. Otherwise just add that particular file to the exclusions list in AVG.

I think that I would just try and disable the auto run feature on windows.
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=how+to+disable+autorun+on+windows Then I would manually try and start the magicjack application for the drive itself. And right click the magicjack.exe and run it as admin should be good.
