Got mine three months ago, and the only thing I had to do was adjust the volume and mic settings.
The biggest quibble I've had is not at all due to the MJ, but my ISP -- this summer Bellsouth (at least where I live, SE KY) went through several weeks during which it seemed that if the weather forecast said there was even the possibility of thunderstorms, DSL would become erratic or even go off the air entirely for several hours.
There are a couple of "acceptable annoyances" which I haven't been able to fix (haven't even tried to) because there are easy workarounds -- softphone pops up whether you want it to or not (my solution: push it off to the side of the screen); numbers entered from the phone to an automated phone menu (e.g., "please enter your PIN number now") are sometimes "doubled" (my solution: use the softphone to enter such numbers); etc. Nothing to get stressed out about; or maybe I'm just to lazy to try to fix them.
So, no real problems here.

ok i dont understand the "spoofing" can you explain ty.diamond45 wrote:Most of the time it works OK. Once in a while I get choppy audio. I blame that on my computer and not the MJ itself.
But overall it does work as advertised, and with caller ID spoofingit is a pretty great device.
$40 for the first year, $20 each additional year - you can't beat the price!

no major issues
The only issues I had were due to the phone itself, not the MJ, which worked great within 3 minutes of plugging it in. Currently I am using a using a Panasonic DECT 6.0 with about a 9" cord between the MJ and phone base, and it outstanding. Works great with GrandCentral as well.
I just received the magic jack from a seller I bought it from on ebay. It worked well right after plugging it in and registering it. The only thing that bothered me a bit was the choppiness of the voice I hear from callers. I fixed that by giving magic jacks process high priority in task manager. Now it is SO much clearer than my Vonage service. My Vonage line has a LOT of static... This Magic Jack line has none at all. It's crystal clear.

MJ has arrived
Finally got my MJ today and hooked it up out of the box got my number and very sastisfied thus far.
Hooked up the MJ on a powered USB hub(suppose to be better).
Since the canadian numbers are not here yet i had to use a dif area code
and my question is, will the ppl calling me get a longdistance charge?
I did call a few ppl to see if they heard me ok and they said clear as a bell
but just a lil static, any fixes or tips for a lil static?

yeah, i did
yes it's a piece of cake. why does everyone just sit at their computer and look for problems, the problem isn't the computer or the magic jack, it's the end user. derrr
Got it working on my thin client in under 1 hour.

No problems here. I'm on my second MJ with no issues at all.
My puppy got tangled up with my phone cord and pulled my MJ out the computer and ran with it down the tile while I chased him trying to get it untagled... It was a fun event
Anyhow MJ tech support was great and had me send it back. Only problem was they gave me my money back instead of just sending me a new MJ. I had to place a new order for another MJ and it works great right out of the box.
I'm currently using it on my file server running Windows 2003 server with a cordless phone attached. I never even see the screen or use that machines. Works like a land line for me with absolutly no issues at all.

Got mine about 3 days ago, worked flawlessly out of the box on my desktop windows vista computer, with the exception of inbound faxes which refuse to work no matter what.
Call quality however is much better and clearer than our regular landline use to be and far superior to our cell phones in our location.
However it refuses to work on our windows xp laptop, it says it can't connect to the internet. We've tried turning off the wireless connection and plugging in the ethernet cable, however it still says it can't connect to the internet, so all in all, it's worked perfectly out of the box on our vista desktop for voice calls inbound and outbound, works for outbound faxes, but not inbound, and refuses to work on our laptop which is the computer we wish to hook it up to since it's cheaper to run the laptop 24/7 then it is the big desktop with it's 1100 watt power supply all day.
So for voice (in and out) on the desktop yes 100% right out of the box. Took me longer to go to the mailbox and plug it in then it did to get it working.
For faxing (in and out) only 50% works right out of the box
For our laptop 0%, it fails completely.
Update: We tried the laptop again this morning, plugged the MJ in and it connected up to the internet just fine, so for it to work on the laptop now sits at 100% right out of the box.
