Hello there to everybody!
I just bought MJ,downloading, starting everything is just great, but when I place a call,I can hear the person at the other end,but the person only hears noise,my words are interrupted and finally they say "I cann't understand you,I don't hear you" Please can anybody help me with this issue? I did fix my audio features and clicked on my computer fixing the performance settings. I don't know what else to do!!
Are you behind a router/firewall? Did you try a different USB port? A lot of times USB ports are paired. They have one next to them. Try not plugging anything into the port next to the Magic Jack. That way no power will be taken away from the Magic Jack.
Also try plugging it in without the extension if you haven't already.
Yes I have a router,I did disable firewall, and the MJ was all along. I like this MJ but it is driving me crazy! Is so easy to use and so difficult to understand!!
Should I use it without the router? If you can let me know and thanks again. I appreciate your comment!
No problem. Let me see if I understand correctly..
You have had the firewall disabled all along? And this didn't fix your issue?
The magic jack most likely uses ports 5060 and 5070 to transmit audio. Your router must be configured to have these ports open. You can also try enabling SIP and QOS in your routers settings.
Let me know what router you have and I will try to give you the steps to do that. Otherwise ... yes you can try using it without the router... plug your computer directly into the modem.
Hi!
Thank you so much for offering to help me! My GOD this is driving me crazy I'm telling you! Well let me be sincere,I'm new in this even on computers and programs. Honestly I don't know what's a 5060 and 5070 port, not even where is this located! And what's SIP and QOS? Please don't laugh, but I'm being honest from the bottom of my heart!!
I'm using Linksys 2.4ghz broadband wireless G router. Ok using or not my MJ with the firewall is the same thing. The first day I got it this was yesterday I could make at least 2 phone calls where I was heard mostly but not enterely. I also install MJ on my other 2 computers and had the same problem one of them had Vista and it was terrible. Everything is working excellent, only people cann't hear me clearly at all. This is frustrating honestly, but I hope you can help me,thanks and this is my story!
Lady Magic!
What sort of operating system are you on? Are you on Windows XP? Windows Vista? I'm wondering if you have a lot of other background programs running when you use your phone...

No, I don't think you have to go that extant. I've seen this mentioned on the boards before, so try this. Try opening your task manager by holding down ctrl+alt+delete at the same time. Go to the Processes tab. Find magicjack.exe. Right-click on it go down to "Set Priority". Change the priority to high.
Once you've done that make a phone call and see if the clarity is any better. If it is, I can probably lead you through a step two. If not, then that may not be your problem. If you restart your computer the process priority will change back to a lower level.
Also, if you haven't already done so... do some simple computer maintanence. Run some antispyware, antivirus and defrag your computer. If you don't already have a couple good antispyware programs installed on your computer let me know and I can recommend a few. Same with the antivirus and how to run the disk defragmentor.
Hi! Thanks for your help!
This is what it appears when I tried to run the test:
YOUR COMPUTER COULDNT CALL OUR LOCATION ON THE STANDARD SIP PORT (5060) GENERALLY,THIS FAILURE IS CAUSED BY A FIREWALL(I HAD IT DISABLE WHEN I RAN THE TEST) BLOCKING OUR CALLS. WE ARE GOING TO RE-RUN THE TEST OVER A COMMONLY AVAILABLE PORT(6000) TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. IT RAN WITH PORT (6000)
BUT I DONT UNDERSTAND THOSE TERMS. Thanks Lady Magic

Maybe you can lead me to step two and this can be fixed once and for all. I followed your instructions and it was great hearing people saying:"Hi there" they recognize my voice at last, but as I told you It needs a little more improvement!
