You need to log-on as Administrator. Once it boots off, hold down the shift key while clicking on start-log-off. When it gets to the log-on screen, enter Administrator for Username and Administrator for Password. It will then boot into full XPe (which is still a subset of XP).
However, updating is more easily done by downloading the necessary files (including latest BIOS and OS) from HP.

I have already downloaded the HP stuff & have them on a thunb drive and on a NAS. Will try the Shift/Start thing.
OK I got to the Login screen, tried Administrator but blank password doesn't work.
Is there a reset shunt anywhere on the motherboard? I saw a two position clip on the card next to the memory chip. What does this do?
My mistake the password is "Administrator" not "administrator".
Thanks
