I'm guessing that the term "back-up" does not exist in his/her dictionary.
I would have put a link to a thread(s) here referencing the contacts file , but the search function here leaves a lot to be desired, so I'll put this one so that gaftop1 will have the opportunity to rectify his/her problem or at least prevent his/her problem from happening again... I would suggest considering the VTec from Walmart for $17. It has a large digital display on the phone and allows you to program numbers into it. When the phone rings it will display those numbers of the person calling. It also keeps track of any calls you missed and lets you sift through all calls you missed. This way you never rely on the magicjack contact list in the case of lost contacts. For $17 you can't go wrong or $29 for two phones. Personally, I don't see the need in ever using the Magicjack interface to make calls.
