My MagicJack is in the mail and I should receive it within the next two days. I was reading a post on the internet that included a link to the magicjack TOS agreement - and found that it is made to work only on Windows XP. I don't have XP installed on my main work computer, but am using Windows 2000 Professional. So far everything that runs on XP runs on 2000 Pro, but I'm a bit concerned with MagicJack's claim.
Will it run on 2000 Professional or not?
Nowhere anywhere does it say I need Windows XP

I'm not aware of the MJ being limited to XP and, in fact, I run one under Vista. I can think of no reason why it shouldn't run on Win2000, as both are built on an WinNT kernal.

The main page of the magic jack web site specifically says that MJ works with XP, Vista and Intel Macs. I tried it in an old Win2000 Pro box I've got sitting around and it didn't work. Didn't spend a lot of time investigating it, but I don't believe that that it will work this way right out of the box.

Might help to use the search functions within the forum. Go down about half way on the above link and see a posting by Stewart.
Edit: I should have pointed you a little farther down the page; the second-to-last post has a link with a patch that reportedly works.

My Small Business SEO Business had to buy an XP PC...
...just for the Magic Jack. I'd planned on using multiple Magic Jacks to gain more "local" phone coverage in multiple regions of the USA for my small business search engine optimization company so it wouldn't appear to be a small business itself. Right now I have two Magic Jacks and forward the 2nd one to the 1st and everything works fine (I'm planning on getting a 3rd & maybe a 4th soon). Oh, and BTW, Magic Jack also won't run unless XP has Service Pack 2 or above.
Darkman90808 - I tried that registry setting patch (and another as well) but they didn't work - MJ has made updates to the software. BTW, I also got my MJ infected by the My Doom worm & had a really hard time getting it off because MJ uses autorun.inf for USB on one of its CDFS partitions & then hides/dismounts the partition for the phone.

The old remedies would no longer work simply because MJ has issued quite a number of updates for the XP SP2-3 and Vista OS. Why not upgrade to XP (if you can still get it) and be done with it? It's gone through quite a few refinements to make it a solid running system (as far as Windows goes, that is).

Have you thought about getting Google Voice numbers in different areas and pointing them to your magickjack(s). The Google Voice numbers are free at least for now!Suthnautr wrote:...just for the Magic Jack.
