Did MagicJack mention this in their ads??

I have DirectTV with Tivo and every once in a while the Receiver needs to call in for an update. Well, appears that can't be done with the MagicCrap. That should have been mentioned somewhere prominantly in their advertising. Does anyone know a fix or work around for this???

Get cable. Magicjack was made with VOIP in mind, that means it carries voice. As far as I know you can't make faxes with it either.

Buy a wireless ethernet interface which works with Tivo (information on the Tivo site). Once installed Tivo does updates thru your internet connection which is much faster and works better. Added benefit is you can transfer recordings from Tivo to and from your computer or another Tivo.

I have faxed successfully (in a test) over the mJ. magicJack is a voice phone service.

yes, in their FAQ on the magicjack site, it says it won't work with DirectTV.

Hey, you could always switch to Dish Network, I haven't plugged mine into the phone for 5 years, but I haven't bought a pay per view movie either. Dish is cool about it..

They don't have to mention that in their advertisements, there is no law that says they have to. You are supposed to be an educated consumer and find that out yourself.

The magicjack is advertised as plug-and-play VOICE over Internet Protocol, not TIVO over Internet Protocol.

Perhaps you'll learn to not buy things right away without thinking.

I assume you have broadband and a router, since you have magic jack.. I have my tivo connecting with Ethernet networking, If you have the Tivo supplied by DTV then I don't think my remedy will work for you, but if you have your own series II tivo or higher, then you can network them and the speed is twice as fast for moving shows from one to the other when you have a second tivo.. Its awesome..

Also the updates are through Broadband.. I know, I know, this may not pertain to you because you have the DTV tivo, but if you have the seriesII, then it does..

FWIW

I have been able to fax sucsessfully inbound and outbound ..
I did have to slow down my fax machines max speed to 9600kbps to help with unsync caused by latency.
