One thing I found is that there are a lot of numbers in Europe ( Holland) that i cannot call, there is a ring on my end but not ringing at the rescipients end and i know they are home because i will be talking to them on MSn ..... no it is not the update or removing the magic jack from my USB port and reinserting into another. Firewall issues and renaming the MJ in the disk management have been looked at as well. Every time speak to MJ online i might as well be speaking to a brick wall
Hi,
I experienced my calls going back to the dial tone this morning. I think it's the first time. Coincidentally, I had just re-arranged my corded phone setup last night, so wasn't sure if I had messed something up. The other clue was I made a test call to my wife's office She heard the phone ring, picked up, but silence. She said it took a long time for the call to connect and she was just about to hang up when the call finally connected. Perhaps the MJ servers are busy (it's 8:30 AM on the west coast, middle of the day east coast).
I went to the MJ site and did the upgrade for Vista users (I'm running XP) and I was able to make a long distance call right after. There was still a delay in the call connecting though as I was part way through the automated attendant's instructions before I connected.
Try running the MJ upgrade (the one for Vista users even if you are not on Vista). Can't hurt.

I'm wondering if this isn't a new anomaly within the MJ network. I've never had the problem until the last day or so. The *67 workaround helps but isn't 100%.
I followed HolmanGT's suggestion and turned off my computer for 15 minutes to reset things on the MJ side. At least that's how I understood the post. This seemed to help but since the problem was inconsistent I may have a better perspective tomorrow.

I started having this problem 2 days ago. i've tried to find out what is causing the problem but I think it has something to do with the magicjack software upgrade. It affects some but not all magicjack hardware. This is a work around that is almost 100 % working for me. I hope some of you can test it to see if it works for you. Customer service is useless so don't waste your time there, I already wasted mine
1. Assuming that Windows is already running, unplug your magicjack.
2. Now unplug your ethernet/network cable. At this time you should have been disconnected to the internet.
3. Now plug in the magicjack back to the USB port. let magicjack load the softphone.
4. The softphone will display "Please connect to the internet and double click here"
5. Now after about 5 seconds or more plug your ethernet/network cable back in.
6. The magicjack softphone will detect these. Wait for the "ready to call" message on the softphone.
7. That's it. You should be able to make a call by now.
Post a message here if it works or if it does not work. Thanks.

Grrr
I have the same problem. I have Vista, and MJ only worked when I upgraded. Was able to make a few calls, then it didn't work again. I do remember having a Vista update prior to this. I don't know if its connected to my problem.
acb_xtatic, I tried your fix, but it hasn't worked for me.
Anyone else with a solution?

Out of desperation, I tried your method on Windows XP Home, (and by disconnecting ethernet from my router) around 11:45A EST from Montreal using a number from Watertown New York calling a number in 239 (Florida) and it worked for me. I don't know if they fixed something or not or if it still fails for others. A few minutes later I was able to call another number in 613 (Ottawa Canada) with no problem.
There may be something to their help site efforts to change DNS but who knows!!! In my case the DNS server to use is supplied by the router running DD-wrt and having a specific one stated. Not likely to have affected MJ like that. Maybe the lease (router to computer) ??
Thanks for the tip. There's another another tool for our arsenal to get around MJ's weaknesses. The service is not ready for prime time with these problems. KEEP YOUR EXISTING LANDLINES just in case!!!
