Forcing system standby / hibernation

Post by ericshufro »

As many people know, magicJack.exe is not very forgiving with regard to entering system standby. The Windows Event Viewer readily identified the standby rejection notice as having come from magicJack.exe and putting my strong desire to enter standby to the test, i have created the following lines for a standby batch file :

taskkill /F /IM magicJack.exe
%windir%\system32\rundll32.exe PowrProf.dll, SetSuspendState

Simply open notepad and paste the above two lines in the file. Save the file as standby.bat and double click when you wish to enter standby.

There are some caveats :

1) May not work on XP Home edition since taskkill.exe may not be available. However, you can probably copy it from a friend :) It has not been tested with Vista either.

2) When the system is resumed, magicJack.exe may not restart and you may have to manually open explorer, locate the magicJack drive and manually double click autorun.exe. -- It's a lot better than bending down 3 times a day!

I hope you find this post useful.

Enjoy,

I use a Sony Vaio Notebook and its setup to turn off my monitor and hard drive after 10 minutes. It doesn't go into sleep mode because MJ acts to funny when it comes back up.
