How to set up my pc to fax
I have XP with the microsoft fax console. I have a dell aio810 with fax capabilities. I have tried everything to get this to flippin fax with magic jack. I get the dial tone and a wierd click as it dials, but the dial tone stays through all the clicks and then just ends. I am not a computer genius but I am not stupid either so any help would be very much appreciated!!!

I've read, on this site, someone found out if you enter the fax number from the fax machine, in this case the computer fax program, rather than the MagicJack phone dial console, it will work...fantasy wrote:I have XP with the microsoft fax console. or, if that's the way you tried it, then have the MJ dial the number...
I have to find the post, but it was one or the other way that worked for them.
They also mentioned playing with the volume of the mic, and or speaker
settings of the MagicJack
lowering the mic volume may have been the fix, I think.

Thanks so much for your reply....
I tried having the MJ dial but then how do I get the fax console to "pick up"? And I also wanted to know...I have dsl. The phone line into house goes into the router, then ethernet to pc. So where exactly do I plug the MJ line in? I tried it in the phone line port on the back of my pc. Maybe that is wrong???? There is only one other port that will accept a phone cord and It has a symbol next to it that kind of looks like a printer....But I'm not sure. Anyway I tried that too.....Anyone else who can help or if you can find that link I would really appreciate it!!!

The magicjack RJ-11 connector is simulating a Line OUTPUT TO the device, (like it's a Wall Phone Jack from the phone company) and needs either a phone or FAX machine or FAX modem connected to it.fantasy wrote:I tried having the MJ dial but then how do I get the fax console to "pick up"? Even with FAX software on your computer, there has to be some hardware the fax program controls, like a FAX modem.
If you're trying to just use the FAX program to have MagicJack dial, there's no hardware used for faxing, being controlled by the computer program.
The magicjack isn't a faxing device by itself.
Usually, you'd either connect the FAX machine to the Phone connector on the MagicJack, or if you have a FAX modem that software controls, then the line In, from the FAX modem, goes into the MagicJack RJ-11 connector.
If you have a FAX modem, connect the "Line IN" connector from the FAX modem to the magicjack, not the "phone" connector of the FAX modem.
This will have the magicjack serving as the NEW "wall" Line OUTput to the FAX modems Line INput jack.
Remember, the MagicJack IS NOW the new Phone jack Interface OUTPUT, NOT any other phone connector anywhere on your computer, or other device.
