My experience with the magicjack.

Post by cdwhit »

I have had my magicjack since May and I use it as my primary phone. I had the problems of it always rebooting itself and loosing connections until I followed someone's advice on here to plug the magicjack into an ac powered hub and only have the magicjack in that hub.

The magicjack has worked great since then until I kept getting notifications to download a Java update, but itunes was always attached to it. I resisited until a couple of weeks ago, then I went ahead and updated the Java update with the itunes.

Prior to that, my voice mail always came through Windows Media Player, which worked fine. Since the Java update with itunes, itunes has taken over my media player, if I want to hear my voice mail, itunes jumps in for my licensing agreement. I don't want itunes.

Last week, I decided to uninstall itunes. What that did was also take my magicjack loader away. I tried many times to use the magicfix but the uninstall for itunes, also took away part of my Java that magicjack uses.

I tried to update Java at Sun and it worked but still couldn't access magicfix. Finally , I used a restore point to last week that included my orginal Java with the itunes. Now my magicjack works again but I can't hear my voice mail with out agreeing to the itunes licensing.

The point is, I don't want itunes on my computer but I seem to be stuck with it now , if I want my Magicjack & I want my Magicjack. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem or if others are having problems, I think it could be itunes trying to be the default media player.

Anyone have any ideas or solutions ? Thanks much !

I'm wondering if iTunes has a configuration screen where you can "turn off" the extention selection
that starts it from activating when you click the media file
(i.e.- .WMP - .AVI - .MPG2 ... etc... etc...)

most players have a config for defaulting to it for certain files... and you can select a check box for ON or OFF state.

The other question is, why does the uninstall for iTunes delete all the rest too?

first see if you can change the config for iTunes, then check the Java config for all its associations too
and try deleting the iTunes again, you can always go back to the restore points if it still deletes everything.

strange how some of these programs weave their way into our systems,
and tangle themselves all around our files ...
