ooma

Post by sligg »

2nd week of ooma phone.

Not one glitch: no dropped calls, no error messages, no voice distortion, no screeches, etc. In fact, I would say the phone service has been perfect.

I'm no shill for ooma. I had MJ for 15 months and I just got disgusted with all the problems that MJ had. The ultimate compliment for ooma is that I'm not aware I have a phone, it's just there, always working both for incoming and outgoing calls.

But to play it safe for at least another month, I still have not uninstalled MJ, just in case ooma falters.

Don't they start charging you after three years or something?

They may start charging, just like MJ may raise their fee

They reserve the right to start charging after 3 years.
- If they are still around.

Magicjack may raise their prices, too.

But you can buy several years for your magicjack, so it wont matter if they raise the prices.

I may give them a try just for giggles. I'm curious about their setup and will see once my MJ runs out.
Windows Vista and Laptop with XP SP2 on the road. Occasionally, a Mac if my Windows machine isn't working.

You can buy Ooma from Amazon or Buy.Com for $230. If you live in NYC they both will charge sales tax but none elsewhere.

With Buy.Com you can get $10 discount with coupon and if you apply for a Chase credit card you can get an additional $30 off.

Ooma will cost $190 if you take advantage of these discounts.

Ooma has worked well for me. The question is will they survive?

Personally I think there's a better chance MJ will survive compared to ooma. To a lot of people, it's easier to swallow spending $40 initially and $20/yr after that then to plucked over $200.

Microsoft Live Search gives you a 25% rebate on BuyitNow items, so you could get an ooma pretty cheap on ebay...you'll need to jump thru some hoops to get this though, so research it in the Fatwallet forums for more details.
