New computer question

Post by isleblue65 »

I bought a new PC that will be faster, more memory, etc so hopefully Magic Jack and other programs/ services will run faster and cleaner.

I have a lot of programs on my original PC that I need to keep, that I have no discs for, and can not find on the Web anymore.

Is there a good free utility, or another method of transferring not only files and folder, but Programs from one PC to the new one?

The old OS is XP Home and the new OS is XP Pro. The programs will all run on the new PC as long as I can get them over to it.

I have a Linksys WRT54G router for wireless use of a laptop, if that can be used for program/ file transfer, etc.

Thanks

Windows networking.. share your C: drive on the old one.. and then just copy the files over for the night.... as far as programs.. what thell do you need? I mean there should be an alternative to anything....

There are several commercial PC migration programs on the market that purport to do just what you are looking for. That is, to migrate all of "your stuff" - programs, data, settings - from your old computer to your new one.

Just head on down to CompUSA (oops, out of business) or Circuit City (sorry, I did it again) or Fry's (if there is one close enough to you and look around.
