What is the best wireless router for use with Magic Jack

I am about to update my router, as I have an older piece of junk. Does anyone know if a certain brand or quality of router works better with the MJ?

I have heard some rumors that certain ones do work better, or some with certain features work better.

Any answers magic jack gurus??

I do not normally post a reply to mine own post, but hey, why not. When I was away on the weekend I stayed in a hotel with a Cisco wireless system in all of the rooms.

My MJ worked perfectly, No echoes no nothing, just like a normal phone.

When I use the same setup at home, same laptop, same phone, lots of echoes and the like.

What gives??

The hotel had more bandwidth? Or, you have some network issues like dropped packets? It's too bad you didn't run this test from your home and the hotel:

As for a router, I recommend anything that can be flashed with the open source firmware Tomato or DD-WRT. Then you can setup QoS to give VOIP more priority. DD-WRT has more features, but if all you want to do is QoS, I think Tomato is better (easier).

I use a WRT54g by linksys, but i recommend the WRT54gl

Hi, I using my daughter router, linksys wrt54gx2. I plug my MJ into my desktop which is feeding off of her router about 40 yds away. The only problem is the router is getting overloaded. My daughter looses connection an I get an ear full. What to doooo?

How do you know the router is overloaded? Try connecting the computer (which has the MJ device) using a wire instead of wirelessly. A few people (including me) have found wifi to introduce problems with VOIP quality. It could be a problem with interference.

Sometimes when I talk on the MJ it knocks my daughter off the router. I don't have a direct link to the net. I'm using my daughter's by wireless and my MJ via wireless. The log on the router shows my MJ is connected. My cousin works for IBM maintenance. He called Linksys about the issues and of course they say it's the MJ. I don't buy it, but in the mean time I've had to turn it off to satisfy my daughter. If her problem persist, then I'll know it's not the MJ.

You're using some terms like "overloaded" and "knocks off" that aren't well-defined. It sounds like a router problem. As I said earlier, if you (or your daughter) are connecting wireless to the router, try connecting with a wire.

If you're using a wireless phone with MJ, it could be interfering with your wi-fi.

I really like my Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 It is recommended by the DD-WRT folks and the combo of DD-WRT and it works great!
