MJ on schedule and save $$ on monthly electric bill.

Post by samba »

For those of you using laptop, PC to host MJ (don't want to spend $$$ for a Thin Client), you might find that leaving the machine on 24/7 is overkill. You can schedule your laptop, PC to sleep at late night and to restart the next morning at specific times. Thus, you will be not annoyed from unwanted calls at times you don't really want, plus saving some $$ on your monthly electric bill.

There are many shareware/freeware available for you to do this. I've found a small shareware called "Auto Power-on & ShutDown" by www.lifsoft.com. Of course, there are many other freewares could do the same job equally well. It is your pick.

Thsi is a good point. I use a TC so poer consumption is really not an issue. For those of you using a regaulr desktop/laptop, this may save you a few $$$ a year.

An old laptop off craigslist also works... All MJ fans want a thin client, but a cheap old laptop can do the job also.

OO thanks. Even though I don't need it for my MJ it can come handy for other stuff.

Power used

Post by Water Boy »

I just got my MJ this month. Set it up on a laptop I don't use much. I'm currently looking for a laptop as my exclusive MJ 'puter. At least when the power blips or goes down for 1-2 minutes the MJ PC keeps an going. No need for a UPS.

Anyway, I'm not really worried about the power draw for MJ. No matter what I use it will always be less then my beer frig :D

I got MJ for my credit card machine, but, alas it won't work. :(

Not to complain but...
I just noticed, this phpBB sux as for the variety of emoticons. Some of the boards I'm on have what seems like 75+ available.

It amazes me what some people will complain about.

I think you need a ThinClient. Of course it would be pointless to link you because the forums are flooded with thinclienters....

P.S
Yeah the PHPBB sucks balls, but no one wants to upgrade to 3. AT LEAST a better skin that goes with the magicjack. Rather then the default blue and stuff. But, just my opinion....

Yea, I looked/read about TCs. That requires a hard cash layout. I plan to get my LT on trade.

I've seen the term ATA but never really knew what it is.
Hummmmm
I'm open to listening/learning.

Maybe this forum needs a synonym / abbreviation / definition page.

I agree. The last thing I give a sh*t about is emoticons.

But they do add a lot of personality and expression to the conversation.
