hibernate, standby
I had the same problem and I finally figured out how to be able to put my computer into sleep mode when I go to bed at night..Heres what I do:
1.Go to the task bar(ctrl, alt & del keys held down) and under processes you should see Magicjack running.
2.clic on end task..this will terminate Magicjack.
3.I power off my modem, this will disconnect you from the internet.
4.You should now be able to go into the sleep mode.
the only reason I power off my modem is because if you leave it on and internet connected, Magicjack will sometimes come back on during the night, thus bringing your system out of the sleep mode . I believe this is caused by the Magicjack internet site trying to communicate with your system and it needs Magicjack up and running to do that.
If you find the above solution not accectable, try this one:
1.remove Magicjack from your usb port..this will terminate Magicjack and you should now be able to go into sleep mode..Remember to rehook up the Magicjack dingy next morning after you come out of the sleep mode..I find this mode will give you a lot of wear and tear on your USB port(constantly removing and adding the Magicjack dingy) and may lead to problems down the road with Magicjack..

Trying to make it thru the upstate NY winters!
I created a batch file call Standby.bat along with a desktop icon for it. The batch file contains the following 2 statements:
taskkill /f /im magicjack.exe
%windir%\System32\rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState
When I'm done for the day, I double-click the icon to shutdown MagicJack and put the PC into standby mode.
In the morning, I restart MagicJack (which is drive letter J:) with another desktop icon that has the "target" property set to run the command:
J:\autorun.exe
This has worked fine for me.
taskkill /f /im magicjack.exe
%windir%\System32\rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState

Get a Copy of Sleep 2.0
You can download a free copy of Sleep 2.0 which will enable your computer to "sleep". It is open source software available through sourceforge.net among other places.
What you think of me is none of my business.
I just would shut down my pc at night. Of course this is not possible if your computer is remote and out of the way. No one should be calling me when my computers off, if they are then they should know my cell phone number.
My 2 cents
Kumar...
P.S that program sleep 2.0 works like a charm, I have used it before!

Will not be on forum until after June 15th.
Thanks for this.Delavan wrote:I created a batch file call Standby.bat along with a desktop icon for it. The batch file contains the following 2 statements:

This caused my system to hibernate instead of going into standby, apparently because I have hibernation enabled in the Hibernate tab in Power Options.
I didn't like plugging and unplugging the MagicJack either, so with a little more digging, I have found that the following works to kill MagicJack and Standby without having to disable hibernation, in case I want to use that.
1. Download PSTools from Microsoft's Technet site:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysi ... 97541.aspx
2. Unzip PSTools into a directory called c:\pstools
3. Create a .bat file that includes the following:
taskkill /f /im magicjack.exe
c:\pstools\psshutdown.exe -d -c -t 10 /accepteula
These options for psshutdown.exe cause a dialog to appear, counting down 10 seconds until Standby, and also allows you to cancel it during the 10 second countdown.
When I resume from standby, I click on my MagicJack icon on my desktop.
Use PC Sleep to hibernate windows xp
PC sleep 2.1 is a countdown timer to force a shut down/standby/restart/hibernate of a computer EVEN WITH MAGIC JACK RUNNING!
BUT I don't use the countdown function. I use the additional FORCE HIBERNATE!.exe file (located in Force Functions Folder that installs) that comes downloaded WITH PC Sleep. Just double click it, and the pc hibernates! PC Sleep itself doesnt even have to be open/running. (There is also Force Logoff, Shutdown, Restart, Standby.) But the best part here is, that since they work with magicjack, and they are .exe, you can schedule Hibernations using Windows Task Scheduler! So you can Hibernate every night forever!!
My WinXP laptop hibernates every night, with mj running, then comes out of hibernation each morning with mj still working! (It just needs a moment to re-find internet). You can use almost anything to make a Task to wake up the computer...i use notepad.exe. Only thing you have to know is this: be sure to select the setting for "stop the task if it runs" and choose 2 minutes. If not, then ForceHibernate will accumulate as multiple processes in Task Manager, and gum things up and skip the scheduled task (as Windows Scheduler ilooks for ANY excuse not to work right). Same with notepad. (Who wants a multitude of notepad windows open anyway? lol
