On screen Key-Pad works, Phone...NOT

Hi,

Suddenly, my on screen Keypad works, but my actual phone, which is my preferred choice, is dead. This is simple, basic AT & T phone; it ain't the phone.

I am still in my first year MJ subscription, it expires in March of 09; I just checked.

Wut UP Wit Dis?????

Edit: I might mention, case it means something....also suddenly, a "renew yr subscription for 5 years" display is appearing in the MJ interface. Hard to believe it is coincidence that this comports with my actual phone being dead.

Hi again,

Cause nobody's posted in response to this issue, I did a live chat with a MJ guy who was pretty amazing & adorable.....tho the first person I got hooked me up with him, Ezekiel, a true Geek.

Will rot bore with all the Byzantine details, but even after using the fix MJ tool.....which at least restored the bullet to the "phone" circle in the menu interface.....the phone itself remained dead. Just like a moose shot by Sara Palin.

When fabulous Ezekiel was sending me suggestions, I went into the registry and discovered, OMG, in USBSTOR.....when unexpanded, the folder icon is shown open. when U expand it subkeys are there but not the good ones (like Alicia sub Keys, hah hah).....I remembered the good ones from my initial difficulties installing MJ in this system (not my other systems).

So conclusion: this is MY BAD. I probably ran Comono reg cleaner when tired & in my cleaning compulsion addiction...in last few days, and let it delete "dangerous entries' which I knew long ago were MJ-related, and left alone.

So only thing I can think of doing now.....is to import the missing reg keys. Can anyone walk thru that? I think they may still be there on my backup desktop and/or lappy.

Jilly hates herself. This is part of life. Well....MY life, at least.

Plus....way back when I spend 3 years trying to install MJ in this system and posted here....a thousand page thread, the formidable Richard Bone leapt in, many amazing & dear people did, but I ended up doing a clean install of XP (Eeeeewwwwew).....and he actually, our of pure PITY, sent me a free second MJ! I was planning to give it as an Xmas gift......but in my early AM hysteria ......I installed it.....IRRATIONALLY HOPING it might wake the phone up. Along with General Motors & the Fed, OMG.

Naturally, it did not. So now, I have two MJ numbers registered......more My Bad/MEA CULPA/mea stupid/

I will await wisdom.

Mr & Mrs Clean, been there...

I'll make a suggestion that should go pretty fast and might even fix your problem.

With MJ unplugged delete the directory "C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\mjusbsp" and everything in it.

Please, just mjusbsp and anything in it.

If you are using something other than XP the "mjusbsp" folder will be in a different location so just search for it or right click on the MJ desktop icon do a properties and it will display the location.

Reboot your machine, re-insert the MJ when the machine comes ready and it should rebuild all the hooks, links and registry entries. MJ normally does this anytime you remove and re-install it but if the mjusbsp folder had some crap in it ... well hopefully this procedure will take care of it. Beside this method only takes just a very few minutes to try.

I luv U relate to compulsive Puter Cleaning Syndrome. mitigates my self hatred, I also luv U are clearly member of Obama cabinet as you have just given me HOPE. Yes I run XP ON ALL MY SYSTEMS, I would rather eat worms than run VISTA/Mojave (A fetid flower by any other name would smell as foul" Shakespeare.)

i am back.

Went thru the simple steps, took 3 secnds, rebooted, autorun ran and mG loaded.....but phne still dead; I called my landlne using onscreen keypad and it rang.

Went into registry, it does now appear all the good alicea Keys subkeys are present, i.e., the Vid1307 and in uSBSTOR the YMAX ONES.....tho i thought her thired cD sucked. Alicia's.

then, cause I had saved it, I ran the MJ recovery tool....and, like last time, it ran and I got error windows saying no device found.

And yet, when I looked in Device Manager, in disk drives, the YMAX MJ is there.

A MYSTERY! Like the Sphinx. Wondaful.

Wut I wll now do....just because, is boot nto my bakcup drive and try stuff......first the Georg fix.

I will report back.

It is possible that wut I need to do is pay Gov Blowhard boi a vic, who may now be in charge of my MJ...h some blood money. U gotta do that wit da clinically insane, OK?

I am now writing from my backup drive, "Piggy"

I did the George fix here, then also ran Comodo reg cleaner, rebooted, plugged in my MJ, it setup, progress bar progressed....but phone stilll dead. I then tried the MJ repair tool here and again get device not found.

I have o clue. but now, I WILL get out my lappy and see if my original mj.....the only one installed on it, works. why/ Wut am I hoping to find out? I do not know. But we shall see.

I think things are OK in SOUNDS, BUT WHO KNOWS?

Firt, in response to yr quetion, yes I did. the bullet is in the phone circle.

Now prepare yrself cause I am now fully deer in HEADLITES: i AM NOW ON MY LAPTOP. Same deal here!!! Neither phone I hooked up works!!!!!!

MJ loads, appears normaL, BUT PHONES HERE TOO on my ALIEN(WARE SENTIA) dead....morte.

I did this expecting normal here on the lappy. Fughet it.

Wut do U make of this? Could this reaLLY BE SOMETHING AT the head end which, when the new offers of renewal appaared, messed sumthin up? Or is that just my usual insane?

Am back on go-to desktop. I would get out and hook up my backup desktop, but I think I would get the same result as I did with my laptop. I remain clueless and MagicJackless.

I tried more stuff. On both drives in this desktop, completely uinstalling MJ and startin ovah. things appear normal until I try to use the phone. Nuthin. Agian, when I try to run MJ repair tool, I get error message widow: device not found.

When I use onscreen keypad to call my landline (I need this for work), it works, phone rings, voicemail picks up after 4 rings.

MJ phones remain DEAD. Like ELVIS.

Will both rise on Easter ya think? Either one?

I CAN NOT FATHOM WUT HAPPENED HERE.....AND with both this system and my laptop!

There is one more thing we (we hell) you haven't tried, I think.

I have not heard of anyone doing it in quite awhile but it was pretty popular back in the olden days before last month.

That is format one of you MJ devices (no sense killing them both ).

Here is the plan:
1. Use the task manager and stop Magicjack.
2. Stop any services you find running called Magic or YMAX anything.
3. (This one will nut you right up) now format your the real MagicJack USB drive. There will be two in your My Computer, one real one virtual. You want to format the real one. You can tell which is which by looking at the size (it does matter) the large one is the real on, the one you want to format. The small one is the virtual drive and if you even do properties on it it will probably fore MJ to do a restart.

OK jumpin ahead after you have formatted it look in it and it should be empty obviously, is it is we are on the right track.

delete the USBMJSP folder. Do what ever you have to to kill everything in the folder. Pull your MJ out (not in public of course) reboot your machine and hopefully it will do a clean rebuild. If and only if you have to to get MJ back use MagicRecover or whatever it is called.

If that doesn't do it put it in a padded 6X8 envelope and mail it to me. you will still have one. Give me a couple of days for turnaround and I will either pronounce it dead or send it back to you as certified good. Cost you about a $1.50 to ship it unless you are in Bangladesh.

By the way, do I assume correctly we can no longer upload images here? Like screenies? Cause there is an Img* above. does htis mean like photobucket? Cause I did two screenies.

Well....I did the Hial Mary, Our father, Novena Candle stuff. Between the two icons in my computer representing MJ, the one with bigger space was theo ne with the MJ interface icon and the only one of the two permitting reformat via right click menu. the other one with CDFS system, no free space and 1.64MBs offered no reformat option via rightclick menu.

Still, given how gifted I am, I may have done the wrong one.

So I hit reformat, it did then show up empty as in running on... and then rebooted, and inserted the device. I Immediately got window for F drive titled PHONE. A never before seen window from Windows! And, in my computer (in this system, Jilly's go-to desktop), what was formerly the MJ interface icon now has icon depicting the outside of a drive and it says 'PHONE"

Or, if you look at it from an ANGLE, "I AM PHONE, HEAR MY DIALTONE NOT"

I find this fascinating. Of course I have that luxury now, after calling 911 and knowing sooon....they will be here wit da net.

Meanwhiile, MJ started, presented sign IN interface, I signed in......AND STILL, THE ACTUAL PHONE IS DEADNESSSSSS.

It is very hard for me to believe, for the against all odds reasons in above post, that the devices per se are bad. BUT ONLY SANTA KNOWs AND ISN'T that the POINT, AFTER ALL RIGHT NOW?

You do, in fact, get to pick the body part. Off limits only; my left hand as I am Southpaw....and no point choosing the brian cause it is clearly already shot.

IO might mention that I only tried my original device on my laptop. but both are dysfunctinal n the same way, so i tink trying the enw one n the lappy is a waste. I guess next would be to get out my backup desktop, where my MJ used to function perfectly as it finally did n all 3 systems and try both MJs.

Were some recent hotfix.....so many ALREADY, post SP3---- messing something up, I am sure hords of MJ users would have posted, so I doubt its that.

Plus, all my systems are clean. Well.....more than Illinois polItics, that is.....and waaaaay more than Wall Street. Talk about infected/corrupted files and DEAD.

I will return. When they give me the meds I will be FAR MORE RATIONAL.

Guess wut? Yes! Th Ihave only tried my originalone, the pink one from ebay as opposed to the Ferrari black one from Mr. Bone......my MJ phne has a DIALTONE.

On borth drives, after pulling the devie, I deleted all the MJ related files, all the reg keys....I noticed in this drive in USBStor there were 4 YMAXes not TWO.....i KILLED EVERYTHING AND STARTED FROM STRACH.

It WORKED. WHY? I do not know, OK? But if an actual human could choose Sara Palin to do anything beyond tending a ladies' Loo(natic).......ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE, DO U HEAH ME?

When I plugged the phone in and picked up the receiver and heard that lovely sound.....I hated Radiohead EVEN MORE THAN BEFORE!!!!

Note: I have two USB ports at the front of this box. this is fabulous as ii used one for my MJS.....now TWO!!!! NOW bothplugged in and both functioning!!

With the newly healthy original MJ in, I unplugged the phone and inserted the new black one. A BRACE OF GLEAMING MAGIC JACKS, SIDE BY SIDE. i TELL YA, IT IS splendid and U will C them at halftime show on Superbowl Sunday. Would I make that up?

The second one also set up perfectly, I plugged the phone into it and it too worked!!!!!!!

Of course, now I have drives from A thru I....literally: two HDDS, floppy, optical and now.....TWO MAGICJACKS. Does XP know the WHOLE ALPHABET ya think? Thru Z? My drives....runneth ovah!

After I sleep, I will do whatever it was I did I did on the lappy.

I thank anyone insane enuff to have followed all this, and do come visit me in this rainforest....where soon, all the indigenous people will be using Magicjack!!!! I see most of them have MACS. lol
