RJ-11 jack stopped working post Dec upgrade
Prior to the December upgrade everything was working fine, but now any phone connected to the RJ-11 jack on the MagicJack no longer works. Softphone works fine. It's as if the upgrade disabled the RJ-11 jack. Anyone else have this problem?
Tech support offered no help other than the typical reinstallation suggestions which did not solve the problem.
My renewal date is coming up in a few weeks. This comes on the heels of the MagicJack being replaced (after weeks of tech support chats) because it wouldn't be recognized by any computer. If I cant get this fixed, the Magic Jack is going in the trash.

Same Problem
I too have a very expensive 4 line Panasonic phone that now cannot dial out anymore. You can hear the dial tone and when dialing the touch dial pad it just beeps the touchpad tones no dialing. I have a very inexpensive Panasonic 1 line phone that can dial out.
Same Magic Jack worked fine on both phones prior to 12/21 upgrade
I have 3 Magic Jacks- same results.
The only way I will stay with MJ is if they provide a path to downgrade from their upgrades, forcing the upgrade is completely absurd.
I know this is cliché but You Get What You Pay For!

Re: Same Problem
A beta program would be nice. Dan has a lot of motivated and caring customers. If he allowed customers to opt into a beta test, he'd have a better chance of uncovering problems before pushing an upgrade to everyone.Kokkos wrote:The only way I will stay with MJ is if they provide a path to downgrade from their upgrades, forcing the upgrade is completely absurd.
I'm sensitive to how it's a low-cost solution. Maybe putting too much time into an upgrade isn't feasible considering the profit margins. But, I think something will have to change if he expects this to compete with landlines (suitable to replace a landline).

Any ideas on how we could motivate 'Dan' or his alias e-mailer to do this???
No we're not at the edge of the earth, but I can see it from here.
Re: Same Problem
Someone could start a "poll" asking "If MagicJack offered a beta program to test upgrades prior to being pushed to the entire userbase, would you participate (knowing you could suffer a disruption in service)?StrobeWylan wrote:Any ideas on how we could motivate 'Dan' or his alias e-mailer to do this???
Then, someone who has contact with Dan could present the results to him (along with the suggestion). Maybe the admin knows someone who can get to him? Otherwise, someone who's had luck reaching him (or his surrogate) at the email address.
A program like that would have to have
1. A way for customers to register their willingness to participate.
2. A temporary mailing list (for a specific upgrade), for participants to report problems. After the upgrade, the mailing list disappears.
3. A defined way to go back to the current production version (in case someone has severe problems with the upgrade.).
4. A way to get personalized help for those who, for some reason, can't get the current production version to run (they're stuck in a broken state).

Response from 2 Tier Support
Kokkos: It is finished and still cannot dial out from Panasonic Phone, I could before upgrade
Kokkos: MJSoft Phone Does Dial out
Lovelyn: Have you check your softphoen menu if it is set to telephone?
Kokkos: Just checked it says "Switch to Headset"
Lovelyn: Yes, that's it.
Lovelyn: Please leave your magicjack plug in as we do the procedure here in our end.
Lovelyn: We will also check your other magicjack numbers.
Kokkos: Thank you
Lovelyn: One moment please...
Kokkos: OK
Kokkos: Hello?
Lovelyn: Thank you for holding Kokkos. We have done the procedure here in our end. We need to restart your computer to update the changes done on your magicjack's system. Please observe an hour for the full activation of the procedure that we did. Please unplug first your magicjack before you do the restart. Please restart after we end this chat.
Lovelyn: As to the other magicjacks of yours the same activation time applies.Lovelyn: Is there anything else I may help you with today?

I find this quite interesting of what procedures did they do on their end.
Will post back in an hour on the results.

I spent 2 hours chatting with MJ today as well. The first tech support person could not figure it out, so she transferred me to "A higher level of Support". I worked with this person for a long time and we walked through several adjustments and changes. After changing registry values, deleting and changing USB drives and doing other system level changes, my computer is now nearly unuseable. It hangs every time the mouse is moved, trys to run an AutoPlay every 5 minutes and will not shut down on its own. I think I will have to re-install my operating system!
In the end, this "higher level technician" said I would have to reboot my computer. He said my connection had been reset on his end (whatever that means) and that if I had any further problems to contact tech support again.
I told him I had little confidence that anything he did would make Magic Jack work because after the "Lucky You" upgrade, none of my computers, even ones that have never had Magic Jack on them will start Magic Jack automatically or manually. After this comment, my computer froze.
My chat session only ended because I could no longer respond to the tech support person.
I just started MJ last month, so I am not sure what to do. If I were 1 month from the end of my term, I think I would cut my losses and chuck it in the garbage, unless MJ does something big to fix these problems in the next week or two.

Interesting that you mention this. As my softphone worked (before the entire MJ dongle stopped funtioning), but my phone did not, I wondered if the USB signal was not as strong after the upgrade. It makes sense, but I wonder if there is solid evidence that this is what is happening?dz20854 wrote:The MJ upgrade sends a weaker signal out of the USB than before!
So this is probably the cause of many of the upgrade problems in the various threads, from no ringtones, no caller id, and expensive phones no longer working.
I could receive calls though, and dial out on the softphone, but pick up and use my handset afterward.
2 teir tech
2nd teir tech said buy a USB hub that can be powered by AC adapter.
I asked why can't I just go back to previous version. Adimit NO
Very Frustrating

By the way first post I made above did not fix the problem, still cannot dial out from my 4 line Panasonic Phone

I am considering filing complaints with FCC, 911, and District Attorneys Office.isleblue65 wrote:I just started MJ last month, so I am not sure what to do. No dial out, means no 911 and limiting phone calls by 30-60 minutes involves Fraud Adversements.

Yes, I have solid evidence. I have MJ hooked up to my house telephone wiring that worked fine with three phones before the MJ upgrade. After the upgrade, none of the phones rang (if I saw the call on the computer I could pick up a phone and the call was otherwise OK). When I unplugged one of the three phones, the other two phones rang fine. (Note that turning off the ringer on the thrid phone was not enough-- I had to unplug the phone.)I wondered if the USB signal was not as strong after the upgrade. It makes sense, but I wonder if there is solid evidence that this is what is happening?
I suppose this would allow me to use three phones again, but I don't want to have to spend the money.2nd teir tech said buy a USB hub that can be powered by AC adapter.
There is a trade off between upgraded sound quality, and amount of power coming out of the USB allowing more functionality. They should have a toggle in the menu allowing the MJ user to make a choice. I started a poll for this in another thread-- please vote-- I think MJ management reads this forum.

Lucky Me. After spending 4 hours on two separate chats with 4 separate technicians (basic and high level technicians), Magic Jack finally proved what I already knew... that my dongle is dead.
I asked if I could return it for a replacement and they said I would need to return it to the place I bought it since it was not purchased from Magic Jack themselves.
Unfortunately I bought it from an Ebay seller, not Best Buy or someplace brick and mortar that I could go to return it. I doubt the seller is going to do anything for me, and who knows where he got his Magicjacks from. It is the older style, so he probably only has the old ones.
At this point, I'm not willing to spend money to buy a new Magic Jack. If the reliability had impressed me I would consider it, but this may be the nail in Magic Jack's coffin for me.
I will try to get in touch with the Ebay seller, but that's all I can do.
This is a great lesson for those trying to save a few bucks by getting it on Ebay or somewhere else without a standing return policy. Spend the extra $10 and buy it in a store or from the source!!!

Your Uniden only has one base station plugged into your MJ dongle (if you are set up like I am with a Panasonic 5-phone DECT system).jonfk2 wrote:I have four Uniden Dect 6.0 phones connected and they all worked and rang fine before AND after the upgrade. How can so many people have so many different results?
Most of these folks are plugging multiple phones directly into the dongle (usually via their house wiring). The dongle then must output sufficient voltage to ring the sum of the requirements of the phones, instead of just feeding one phone.
