Call forwarding Assistant For Magic Jack (Version 2.1 Added)

Post by zmaddmattz »

This Program No Longer Works

Because of a lot of the little changes made over time by magicjack. The program no longer works. I had a fire a short while back that claimed a server with over 3 terabytes of data. I no longer have the source code for this software. Heck I don't even know if In have a copy of the program itself. I just got down writing a new call forwarding program but it doesn't have all of the features of the old one. I will be starting a new thread tonight or tomorrow with the program and the source code.

Thanks

I got the magic jack yesterday in the mail. I was pretty impressed with the quality I have gotten out of it so far. But what I found almost appalling was that you have to login to their website to change your call forwarding settings. I woke up about a half hour ago with nothing to do, so I made a program that will update your call forwarding settings.

Right now the program is pretty simple.

Input your username/phone number
Input your pass
Input the number you want to forward to
Click enable or disable to toggle your call forwarding

I hope this program is helpful to others. The program is written in vb6 so you will need to have vb runtime installed.

Version 2.1 http://www.savefile.com/files/1955927

Version 2.0: http://www.savefile.com/files/1948618

I was just ranting to myself about that the other day.
The call forwarding should be changeable from the softphone!

Thanks dude!

Auto Forward

Post by shortz »

What would be really cool is if MJ offered "network unavailable" forwarding.. i.e. automatically forward calls if the MJ is unavailable.. I have Vonage (ending it soon) just got the MJ and am disappointed that this autoforward option is not available.. (It is with Vonage)

There is absolutely no valid reason why they don’t have an auto forward option. The magic jack program maintains an active connection while their software is running. Come to think of it there is no good reason why you can’t toggle the controls from the program. If I can write a program in a half hour that does it (with limited programming knowledge), certainly the magic jack company can do it.

The fact is that magic jack is a knock of other technologies. The magic jack hardware itself is little more than flash memory with an analogue telephone sound device. The magic jack is very limited because the software does it all, and the software is dependent on huge operating systems. Magic Jack’s advertisements are very misleading.

You’d think they would make more money by selling a telephone device that could plug in to a router and make a connection to their servers that’s totally independent of a home computer.
as of right now I’m analyzing the way their software works to make a light weight version that can run on a Linux based firmware (Like the kind on the Linksys router) Those old Linksys dsl/cable routers are a dime a dozen now.
Then I need a way to attach the magic jack to the router.

Hummn.... that'd sortof be a "clone" of what Vonage does with their adaptors now ey??

I absolutely loved Vonage, I'm just getting cheap in my old age and figure that spending 25 + bux a month for something that I don't really use that much is, well.. too much...

Anyway... the autoforward thing would be great.. maybe they read these forums??

Don't count on it. Can anyone point out even one request for a new feature that they have actually implemented?

I lost the original source code, but I do have a new version that I will post with the source code. I have a habit of not documenting the code when I write it so I will do my best to add notes to the source. the new one should be posted with in the nest few days

I don't know what I am doing wrong but this isn't working for me. :?

I enter my MJ number on the first line.
I enter my MJ password on the second line.
I enter the number I want to forward to on the third line.
I press "enable".
An hourglass appears for a few seconds.

I try it out and my MJ phone rings as if it isn't forwarded.

Am I doing something wrong?

try using your email address on the first line (the one you used to register your MJ).

zmaddmattz,

Thank you for this handy utility. It works like a charm for me, and is certainly more convenient than going to my.magicjack.com.

I downloaded it the day I got my magicjack. However, CF Assisatant did not work for me at first. I initially used my email address in the 'Email Address or Phone' input box, and that did not work. I switched to my magicjack telephone number, and it has been working fine since.
Tims75 wrote:I don't know what I am doing wrong but this isn't working for me. :?
Tim,

I have not tried screwing around with what is now working, but if you use hyphens in your phone numbers that might be a problem. The password might also be case sensitive, so if your password is not exactly the same as registered with magjcjack.com it might be a problem. Just some suggestions. Also, did you install vb6? It does not work without it. You can download vb6 free from microsoft's website:

Installed vb6, tried both with and without hyphens, and quadruple checked my password. Even reinstalled the app.

Went to the MJ site and made sure that CF worked through there. It did.

Just my luck. :? :( Still won't work.

Any ideas? I would really like to be able to use this cool program.

I just installed this and it works great!!! I was having a huge problem with this because I wanted to put the phone in do not disturb each day while my son took a nap. However, when I put the softphone in do not disturb, incoming callers get hung up on. This is an excellent fix. Thank you so much!

Nice utility. Thanks. Would you consider adding a feature that right clicking on the systray icon will bring up a disable/enable menu?

Hi,

The link for your 2.1 version isn't working. I get a MediaFire error that says the key is invalid.

"The key you provided for file download was invalid. This is usually caused because the file is no longer stored on Mediafire. This occurs when the file is removed by the originating user or Mediafire. "

Can you check it again?

I've download the version linked two posts above. I type in my info, and it tells me it was successful in changing my forwarding. However, when I call my mJ number, it is NOT forwarded anywhere.

:-(

Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Hi - late reply to the GuyOntheAir

I have this problem occasionally too. Sometimes I have to enable (or disable) 2 or 3 times before it works. Not sure why.

Also, on occasion I'll get an "invalid Password" error... even though the info has not been changed. Click enable (or disable) again, and all is well.

Another feature request: Could you add support for multiple lines under one account? I can't use the program anymore because I have 2 lines and it defaults to one... the one I don't usually want to forward. Or post the source code? Thx.

I am a new MJ user and new to this forum. I just downloaded your Call Forwarding Assistant and it works great! Thank you for providing it. I thought of one enhancement that would be nice. If it could be run from the command line, with "enable" and "disable" parameters, then it could be run from a batch file and scheduled to execute at startup and shutdown. Basically, I just want call forwarding enabled whenever I shutdown, and disabled when I boot up. Do you think you might add command line functionality? I understand if you'd rather not spend a lot of time maintaining this program. Also, is your VB source code available? Thanks, again, for coming up with this slick utility.

The my.majicjack.com web page went offline early this morning so I couldn't change my forwarding address from there. When I used the Call Forwarding Assistant to do it, it showed success. However, when I checked the forwarding when the web page came back a few hours later, it showed that my Call Forwarding was had not gone through.

That would be nice!
Also nice would be call forwarding scheduling. E.G set it up say where after 5pm , no forwarding or forwarding to a different number!
