The name isn't transmitted; like a cell phone, only the number is shown.

That's what I suspected however in the process memory for the caller id logs the name is shown! So how does the software get that information?

Run regedit.exe and browse to:

Code: Select all

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\talk4free\USB Softphone\Options\General\FullName

Ok. Yes that value holds the name of the last call received on the softphone. So if only the number is being transmitted how is the sofphone getting the name information? By doing a lookup? And if so is there a way to get the ATA to do so?

WTF does a registry entry have to do with an ATA, SF.

Cut the guy some slack mufon (pron. muff-on).

Getting callid name through your ATA is dependent upon the call's termination, and of course proper configuration of your ATA. You didn't specify your ATA, but it should format its sip header something like "callerid name" <number>".

I know this is somewhat vague, but your ATA's config is the one key factor. That being said, the caller id names passage to the callee will still depend on the callee's carrier.

If you make this entry "anonymous" it blocks outbound caller id.

I think he was talking about incoming caller id.

I also would like to know if/how this can be done. I have a PAP2v2 with one line running MagicJack and the other Gizmo5. Both services thru the ATA only show the caller id number and not the name.

How did you get the pap2v2 to run MJ. I can't figure it out. I would really be grateful if you could help me out.
