MJ registration

Post by clumsyguy »

Thanks to online help, I'm able to get my new MJ to work, kind of.

Now there is a registration problem. The register wants an email name. I give it but it doesn't like it and says the email address is invalid. Strange this should come up but it did. I have more than one email address and gave that with same result.

What is this registration looking for? This has never happened before and I'm at a loss as to handle it.

Anyone know how to proceed from this situation?

Thanks for any tips.

If you go to my.magicjack.com it has a link to remind you of your password, and only requires you to put in your phone number. If you do this, it may help you identify which email address you used. Be sure to check your spam folders too.

If it doesn't appear in any known email account, you'll have to go to tech chat. Be aware that this is a security issue. They can't just change the email address for any request. They have no way of knowing it's you. They might divulge what email address it was registered under. But, that's a security issue too. (I wouldn't want anyone to be able to go to MJ support with my phone number, asking what email address is associated with it).

IMO, this is a big hole in the MJ service. There's no "secret questions" (which themselves present security problems too). If they keep your credit card on file, they might use it to authenticate you. But, a lot of people object to being asked for their CC number when they aren't purchasing anything.

Thanks for the tip. I got on to the site but it is a merchandise ordering site, I couldn't find any link of a password reminder.

That's just Dan's "PT Barnum" style. You have to look for the link on that page to go to your account portal. It's at the bottom of the page I think.

Thank you for your suggestions. I found what you were talking about and I also found the email address I provided and it's the same one that the registration keeps rejecting.

What or who do I contact to straighten this confusion out?

Thanks,

If you did the "remind me" thing and confirmed that you know your email address and password, and you can't use them, then I think your only option is MJ chat support.

"Clumsyguy," If you contact MJ chat support about your login/registration problem, let me know if (or how) they authenticated your identity.

I'm curious what would prevent me from opening a chat session pretending to be someone I know uses MJ, providing that phone number, and gain access to their account (able to forward all calls to me).

Tried the registration thing again and - - - it worked! Suprised me a great deal but I'm happy that it did. I think, perhaps, that I may have been typing the pwd wrong, I don't know that but I made a test phone call to my tv satellite provider and, instead of hanging up, the call went through. So My new MJ is working and I hope it lasts longer than the last one did.

Thank you very much for your suggestions. I didn't have to call MJ chat but that's a possibility for any future problems which, I hope, none arise.

Thanks again.

P.S. On an unrelated subject, the instructions with my new MJ said not to use it with a USB hub that is not powered. I wonder if it can be used with a powered one. Ever tried that? If so, did it work all right?
