Correct "register expires" value on ATA?

Post by pagemen »

I know everyone said it should be 180...but I'm running wiredshark right now...assume the value is the time between two "SIP Status: 200 OK (1 bindings)" packages.

and, to my surpise, the value is 14 minutes 30 seconds, or 870 seconds instead of 180.

also, the softphone sends a keep-alive package every 20 seconds to proxy:5070.

can anyone confirm this?

My ATA defaults to 3600 sec (1 hour) if that helps. Its an Innomedia 6328 used with old SunRocket/Vonics customers.

it only matters if you want to fly under the radar

otherwise, either value is fine.

With all the members of this forum openly discussing their ATA hardware, I don't see where this can be of much harm.

You have never seen this before because I might be the first person to have done it.

There is no link. Magicjacksupport.com is the first place I published anything about it.

I put stickers on the box, over the top of where is had said Sunrocket as a joke. I thought some people here would get a chuckle out of it. I even changed where it said prices start at $9.95 per month, to where it now says first year free then $19.95 a year. See lower left of the box in the photo.

These were Sunrocket IP phones. In late 2007 thru mid 2008 these could be purchased brand new for $10 or $15 on eBay. I own quite a few of them now. I have used them with just about every popular SIP VOIP provider out there. They work great with Gizmo5.

These were available at Staples retail for a while. $99 was the street price. Then Sunrocket went belly up, and things changed.

These IP phones work pretty nice and they're fairly easy to unlock. Prices on eBay have climbed to around $35 (plus or minus), and there isn't as many on eBay now as there once was. They were a super bargain at $10-$15 bucks, I think they are still good at the $35 -$45. You don't need an ATA with these because they are SIP IP phones to begin with.

seems that nobody(and magicjack) cares about the value

anyway, i'm quite sure it should be 15 minutes(900 seconds) by default in the softphone, and the programs tries to register 30 seconds before expiration----making 870 seconds into place.
