New upgrade?

Post by Sherwin Williams »

I just received the email below from "service@magicjack". Does anyone know what changed?

FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS, with Pictures, BELOW !!!!

In order for magicJack to provide you the best service possible, you must restart your softphone (LCD Keypad) now. If you do not, your MagicJack will shut down until you restart it or plug it back in again. There are many enhancements in this new software, to make your magicJack work better. There are also security items built in for the magicJack Network.

Please upgrade immediately.

Yours truly,
magicJack

Please click the Image button on your softphone (LCD Keypad).

Those pictures are of the old softphone version (before 12/17). Are you running the old one?

If so, I'd say they're telling you that you have to upgrade or they'll terminate your service.

But, the ad in the softphone window is interesting. It sounds like they're asking you to beta test something. "Saxman" said last night he was told there will be another "Lucky You" upgrade in the next 10 days. So, maybe they're inviting you to try it. If I were invited, I'd probably try it.

Those pictures are from the email - not my softphone. I am running version dated 12/17.

After restarting the magicJack, I was still at version dated 12/17.

That's weird. And you've never seen that softphone ad on your softphone?

Did you look at the email headers to verify it really came from MJ? The wording of the email sounds a bit "off" to me. It sounds accusatory. A bit off-putting without any introduction or background. No reason why they're sending it to you.

Very odd. I haven't seen this ad on my softphone either.
As Mark said, I would try it , only because they are not asking you to use a link in the email but rather directly through your own softphone.

No. Those are screenshots sent in the email he received. (I almost made the same mistake.).

I got this email too - haven't done the upgrade yet because I don't want anything to screw up my SIP settings, which "network security" sounds like it would do.

The whole thing sounds weird to me. The OP said he restarted his MJ and there was no upgrade. The images look like they're from the old pre-release days a year ago. (Beta 4.0?).
