Saving Money By Call Forwarding

Post by Denver Dave »

Hi have a Magic Jack that I use for outgoing calls, but never for incoming.

My mom uses a calling card to call her brother - both are in Colorado.

It costs my Mom 5 times as much to call an in-state number than a number in another state and 2 twice as much to call in-state as to call France.

So I was wondering ... what if I changed my MJ number to a number in another state and had my phone forward back to my uncle in Colorado. Then when my mom calls the MJ out of state number and it forwards back to Colorado, would she save 80% on her calling card charges?

Anyone know?

I think so. I have a 2nd Jack in a different area code. I have it forwarded to my primary Jack. Anyone who calls the 2nd Jack is forwarded to my primary Jack without any knowledge of what's happening. They only pay whatever it costs to dial the number of the 2nd Jack.

DenverDave, Check this out as an alternative.. With these guys it doesn't matter where you call, it is always 1.9c a minute. there are others on the web, but this is something that you can set up with prepay and fix so you don't have to enter the pin code whenever you make a call.. You can give it to your aunt and uncle and both can call each other whenever, Another alternative is jaduka it is set up on the PC but can be used even with dial up, because you only need to access the site to set up the call with a small window in the "Dukadial" section.. very simple.. That is totally free unlimited calling.. Or, MJ is cheap enough that It would work fine for her to call a local MJ number and have it transfer the Uncle totally free.. Are there any local numbers in her area?? thats the best if you want to keep it simple for her.. 8) Actually this whole thread should be moved to "the Lounge"

My mom has a dial up line - that's why in-state long-distance calls are an issue. Otherwise, MJ would be great for her.

I forget sometimes that people still have to deal with dialup, just so used to broadband after all these years.
