TheMagicJack.ca's Affiliate Program; another grieve

Post by Rahim »

I have enrolled in this program (http://www.themagicjack.ca/idevaffiliate/signup.php) and bought many units and distributed to friends. I hoped to make some $ although it is not much. However, they paid me for the transaction not for the number of units sales!! Meaning that, whether the transaction is for one unit or 10 units you get $3 only. I called Victor and he said that he will fix the system and next time I should purchase one unit per transaction to avoid the error again. Nothing has been fixed despite several emails and phone calls; actually my last few emails were ignored until I changed my tone... but the response was very disappointing. Check the email history below:

As I mentioned to you we pay per sale, also you joined to save yourself the 3.00 per magicjack ad never another sale cool. I also I don't appreciate the threat of going to take other actions. Terrible business principle.

Have a great day and a safe and happy new year.

Kind Regards,

I am afraid that I am going to have to take another action if I do not get
my full commission immediately.

This is definitely not an encouraging sign to make business with you.

Victor,

The system still shows an order of 1; when this should be fixed? I need to
make an order of 10 but want to make sure it will be recorded properly
first.

We are working on the adjustments. The system is set up for single orders.
When a customer purchases it always sees it as a single order.

Hi Victor,

I bought 8 of them as you can see attached; my commission should be 8*3= $24
CAD. Please clarify.

Victor is rude and I wouldn't do business with him.
I regret purchasing my dongle from him,
and I wouldn't even recommend themagicjack.ca as print-off toilet paper...

I have filed a complain with BBB but these things take long time. The money I am disputing might not worth the effort to follow up the complain... but I will till the end so it does not happen to others. I agree with you about Victor and his rudeness... I am surprised he is still in business!!

I received a response from BBB today. I am quoting from the letter "The Better Business Bureau did not receive a response to your complaint.", "We are closing this complaint as NO RESPONSE." and "When a company fails to address any issue brought to its attention by the BBB, that company's record is changed to UNSATIFACTORY BUSINESS".

Apologies to Rahim, but I am laughing uncontrollably right now due to the supreme idiocy of how that reseller program is structured.

Why is it that this enterprise is the only one that makes a special effort to shoot itself in the foot at every opportunity, even creating opportunities to self-injure when none present themselves naturally?

How counterintuitive, counterproductive and wasteful it is to force resellers to purchase devices one at a time in order to realize the commissions they deserve. Nobody wins by making the reseller process many individual orders - not the reseller, the distributor, nor MJ. The only winner is the shipping company (and the shipping carton manufacturing company, perhaps).

Why does MJ need to coat such an industry-shaping self-selling product in so much sleazy muck? (Please don't answer that -- I don't think I have the stomach for it!)

This is classic MagicJack. It's like the way they send a "redemption code" to the customer for additional years purchased. If the customer doesn't receive the email, or understand its significance, a year later the customer complains that they got ripped off.

Why on earth involve the customer in what should be backend processing? You know they purchased extra years. Just apply it to their account. If it can't be done automatically, write the data to a file which chat support monitors and processes manually.

I haven't had occasion to renew and haven't chosen to buy a 4/5 year extension yet, so I will ask. When you purchase the 4/5 year extension do you include your MJ number in the transaction, or are you free to apply the purchase to any MJ you wish?

1. The original offer was at time of purchase. You make the $39 purchase for the MJ unit and 1-year plan. Then they present you with a few "come on" offers like expedited shipping. They knew who you were at that point because it was tied to the same web session as the primary purchase.

One "come on" was the offer for 5 years. It was worded in a way that could leave you to believe you were purchasing 5 additional years. But, it really replaced the 1-year plan with a 5-year plan. So, you were only buying an additional 4 years.

2. Early 2008 the offer was added to the my.magicjack.com account portal. You have to login with your phone number or email address.

This is where things started to go off the tracks. It was still a 4-year for 1-year "swap." The problem is, depending on when you bought the "swap" you got a different value. When someone's already used almost all their 1-year plan, they felt ripped off to be buying 5 years, but learn one of those five replaced the one year they'd already used.

3. Nov. 28 2008, the offer was a softphone ad. You either bought it as a new customer (probably like #1 above) or as an existing customer (like #2 above).

This is when it really hit the fan because the wording lost all semblance of replacing plans. It was "extend by 5 years" but was really replacing a plan with 4 years.

I don't know a redemption code could be applied to someone else's account. If so, that could be a reason to email it to a person. But, it was never sold that way (as a "gift" card).

Between Joe and I we sound like broken records. I should have this response on a permanent link. A project for tomorrow, maybe, but in the interim:

Soooooooo, who exactly are you addressing your post to? I'm sure you noticed at the top of this forum that this is an UNOFFICIAL MJ forum. Unfortunately, it has no connection with MJ, in any way, shape or form, other than having magicJack in the name.

I would respectfully suggest that you visit a magicJack site to resolve your issue. Good luck with that btw.
