Get Fax sound when call comes in

Does anyone know how I can get rid of my fax modem making it's sound when a call comes in? Everytime someone calls me it sounds as if it goes to my fax modem first. I've tried turning off the sound in my fax driver but that doesn't seem to help. I've also tried disabling the modem in device manager and that doesn't help either.

Can you please provide more detailed symptoms of the problem and your physical configuration? How is your fax modem physically connected to your MJ? What sound is it making? Ringing, fax modem training, or something else? When does the sound start and what do you have to do to make it stop? If it is your internal fax modem and you have not connected a physical phone wire from the modem to the MJ, how are you sure that the sound you are hearing isn't simply the MJ triggering your sound card to play the "incoming phone call" sound on your PC's speaker?

I've got a WinXP system, MJ is hooked up to a powered USB hub, internal fax modem, using a headset with no external phone hooked to the MJ. When a call comes in, I hear the "fax machine sound" and then the normal ringing. This seems to have started when someone tried to send me a fax and I tried to receive it using the MS fax program (it failed). Now it makes the "fax machine sound" everytime a call comes in.

Configure the fax software for manual operation. It's trying to answer incoming calls. It has no way of knowing that the call is not an incoming fax until after it answers the call and doesn't get any handshaking tones.

Nope, I still get the fax sound as if it's trying to answer. It only does this once then the normal phone ring continues. I can't understand why it's doing this.

Do you, by chance, hear this sound in between the first and second ring, just before the second ring? If so, you might have gotten your PC into a weird configuration wherein you are hearing the Caller ID information being passed from SJPhone to magicJack.

It's not likely, but it's a thought.

There may not be a remedy to be had. I don't know enough about your configuration to know what, if anything, can be attacked. If I understand your configuration, you are using a headset instead of the dongle for your MJ account. You probably have the voice path pointed to the headset and ring indication pointed to your PC's speakers. Unless you can find a way to tell the softphone not to send Caller ID to the MJ dongle, this may be something you will just have to live with.
