My experience so far

Post by Don123 »

I wasnt going to bother with writing a review but after tonight effort im going to.
We got a MJ back last year some time and from the moment we received it we had problems, they replaced the MJ we had (that was good) and it worked off and on.
We tried to keep our cool as best we could till one day we were in the chat and doing as we were told by them (they should know right) and all of a sudden we had major problems they messed up big time with the setting and boy i was mad.
Some of the setting they asked me to change i asked them are you sure about this one...yes we are  .
Im glad that people out there have this working great for them but for those who dont its a nightmare to get anywhere with the so called support.
I might be wrong but when i pay for a service thats what i expect or at least an answer but you get nothing all you get is "i understand", no they dont understand or they dont care one or the other.
Im at the stage where im not even sure Tech's are working for them as you get way too many different stories each time you ask a question and once they cant answer you they get very and i mean very rude to you.
I dont expect to be spoken down to by anybody the way i have been with MJ support over the past few days and im very easy to get along with.
I just want answers and dont expect to get any from them.
For me myself i should have known better any company that you can only get hold of via an online chat is something to worry about big time because you know full well you want get the answers you need from them.
All i have to say is im sick of being lied to and taken for a fool.
I know some have good dealing with this company and thats great but if your thinking about this company please please do you research first, i wish we had.

There aren't many people (here on the forum, at least) who have had good support from online chat. There are, however, many people here who have helped each other succeed in making the cheapest service in the US work for them. I prefer to spend $1.67 per month for good service with crappy support than $20.00 per month for good service with good support. What I learn on this forum is worth far more than the $18.00 I would have spent for helpful support, which makes me happy to contribute solutions when I can.

By the way, that $18.00 per month saved pays for about 1/3 of my internet service, which makes me a very happy camper.

100% agree with you, i would rather pay what i am have a few problems as well not a worry, but so far its cost me $120 to use a public phone booth.
I dont know if anybody here can help with my problem at all.

The very few times I ran into problems with magicJack, I have found this Forum is the best place to go for help rather than the magicJack tech support chat.

Don,

Read your post in the 'Going Like Sixty' forum.
Why would you spend $120 at a phone booth? An inexpensive pay as you go cell phone should take care of short term problems getting MJ up and would give people a number on which they could reach you.
As many have mentioned, having a cellphone backup (or a POTS landline) if you are using MJ just makes good sense.

Please use the forum to answer your questions or address your problems. the wiki set up by amigo boy also has loads of 'how-to' and FAQs. (en.wkibooks.org/wiki/MagicJack). Use the forum, tell us what you are experiencing. Use the search function (although it is quite cumbersome) I'll bet we can get your little box of blue light working.

I did?, wow cant remember that one but not to worry i might well have done so, hey sorry if im putting things in the wrong place but im new and not up with a lot of tech talk as to where to go.
We have 3 mobile phones, 2 are so called international yet we cant use them as well, my grip is i cant use international calling, my wife is Australian and her parents cant afford the calls we are based in the USA.
Soooooo we have no choice but to use a public phone booth, ever looked at how much they charge...lol.
Her parents live in Victoria where all the fires are going on so yes she has a need to keep in contact with her parents.
Its all good we are way over it all sometimes you just need to let go and go back to basic's might cost more but less stress and my wife has been under a lot of stress of late trying to get hold of her family.

With a regular need to receive calls from Australia, you need to hook into a real VoIP service.

Choose a service that is connected with SIPBroker. SIPBroker's web site lists the service registered with them, to help you find one that works. They have access numbers all over the world. Your folks in Victoria can call a Melbourne phone number and punch in your code to reach your phone. They pay Telstra for a local or STD call to Melbourne and you pay nothing per minute to receive the call, as it is carried the rest of the way to your doorstep via the public internet. The "owner" of the access number receives a small amount per received call-minute and advertising publicity on the web site to encourage you to sign up for a real number.

Also, if you have your own ATA or want to use a conventional softphone like X-Pro you can sign up for service with PennyTel. They are an Australian company that charges nothing per month and offers outbound minutes for very good rates in that part of the world. They also have access numbers across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Malaysia, and offer DID numbers for a price within Australia. Check them out.

Go for phone cards. They can be used on payphones. Small additional charges for use on payphones but probably worth it. They can also be used with cell phones. Good Luck. It would be hard to worry from so fatr away.
