No caller ID coupled with a strange modem sounding noise.

Post by Demogar »

My caller ID problem is strange in that it works sometimes and not others.

When it doesn't work, the phone will ring one and you can hear a modem sounding beep noise from my computer speakers. When it makes that sound the caller ID doesn't work.

Sometimes, it wont make that noise and the caller ID will work as normal.

Most of the time I have to restart my computer, Magic Jack and the phone and switch to different USB ports to get the caller ID to work.

When I got the MagicJack the caller ID worked flawlessly for over a week, now it doesn't work more often than it does.

The thing that makes me feel that my problem is different than that seen all over the forum is that it works sometimes and when it doesn't there is an odd modem sounding beep.

That modem noise just before the second ring is your incoming Caller ID information being delivered to your PC's speakers instead of to your MJ dongle. North America uses the Bell 202 modem protocol to deliver this information.

Unfortunately, that's as far as my diagnosis can go. Perhaps another member has some experience that can help you towards a fix.

I just wonder if this is a problem with my computer or MagicJack.

I tried using the MagicJack on two different computers, one running XP and one running 32-bit vista, the caller ID works fine.

The computer I have been trying to run it on and encountering the caller ID error runs 64-bit Vista.

Is there a compatability problem with 64-bit Vista?

Does anyone know how I could fix this issue?

Did you install the Vista version of the software?

Yes I did.

Hoping it was a problem with my computer I did a complete reformat.

Re-Installed the Vista update and it still doesn't work.

Same modem beep, same caller ID not working.

In the meantime I have it hooked up to my Laptop, caller ID works fine there.

Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Mine does this when I have my logitech USB headphones plugged in. After I unplugged them I started receiving caller id again. I did notice the modem sound too at the time.

I love Magicjack. Now I love it even more that I got the caller id to work on my phone by getting a fixer from www.magicjackcallerid.com

Mine did the same as the OP.

The fix was to remove the external USB sound card and install a PCI one.

MJ was getting confused (after the December update) and was sending the caller ID to the USB soundcard.

The resistor fix did nothing for me.
