I don't understand your reasoning. MJ only uses 100kbs bandwidth for voice traffic. Why would it need to communicate to the USB device at 480 *m*bs (or faster with eSata)?

One nice thing about moving away from USB would be lower CPU utilization. However, USB is pretty universal across computers so I don't see it going away on the MJ anytime soon.

Moreover, the TigerJet chipset that does 90% of the audio and telephone signalling processing is the commanding leader in the market and is very affordable. That's how we can enjoy this product for $20 for the hardware and $20 a year for service.

The signal bandwidth out is like a meg, but I would see an integration factor for desktops for PCI slots being a quick response for CPU processing. Also you get more room for better hardware with a PCI Slot device. Certainly can only gain by adding it.

Youve got a point though the benefits are few and far between to the current product, its just that I see USB being more limited than say PCI plus I hate the thing just siting out. Plus its kind of flemzy. Id much just have some hardware to drop in a box and just plug a phone into the back of the box with out any objects sticking out.

On the contrary, USB is more versatile than PCI. PCI can only be installed in PCI-capable desktop/tower machines. USB can plug into them, too, plus laptops, SUN Sparcs, Apple Macintoshes, HP thin clients, Buffalo thin clients, Asus modems, etc.

As you well know, MJ keeps the price we pay down by limiting hardware, software and customer service to the smallest number of options with the greatest possibility of application.

If you wish to pay for a PCI FXS interface card, I heartily recommend Digium's TDM410 card, with prices starting at US$544.39.

It's your money, and you are free to spend it as you wish.

MagicJack only uses 100kbs in each direction. You're proposing solutions to problems that don't exist.

I have had a thought, don't know if it is a good or even a viable option. But what about installing a pci usb card with an internal usb connection and installing the MJ inside your box and just running the cable in to it. That would but the MJ in a "safer" more secure location and hopefull prevent accidental unplugging or damage to the device.

That would be ok - except if you need to reset MJ w/o rebooting the machine. Tech Support would also be a problem because they always ask you to pull out the USB dongle and re-insert to restart MJ.

BTW - I have a PCI USB card with an internal port just as you discuss and for a blink I thought about putting the MJ inside. But how could I ever live w/o seeing that pretty blue LED??
