Magic Jack on Window mobile devices...is this possible?

Post by kojo2005 »

I don't have MJ yet, but will probably soon. I have a Windows mobile phone that has WiFi...I'm curious if there is a way to use the magic jack software on a mobile device, similar to skype?

There is a wealth of information in this forum on that very topic, just waiting for you to read it. I recommend you begin by reading through the "magicJack Tips, Tricks, and Hacks" category. Look through the thread titles for ones that talk about using MJ with your own softphone and read them first. To save even more time, use the Search button to look for threads that deal with "WiFi" or "cell" and read them first.

Welcome aboard.

Here's one exemple, at a reasonable price;

otherwise you can use any SIP phone.
You can also install on other devices, such as a "jailbreaked" iPhone.

I kinda think this doesn't answer the OP's question... I could be wrong, but I think the question is: Can you stick the MJ dongle on a WM device, on its USB port, successfully? I believe the answer is no, and (mostly) prolly never, because nearly all WM devices have USB ports that don't support host mode, nevermind the lack of WM MJ software.

The way I read the original posting was that he wanted to know if there is a Windows Mobile / WiFi softphone that is compatible with MJ. Since MJ uses SIP, there is no doubt this can be accomplished. He needs to read the appropriate previous postings here to learn what has been accomplished so far and what he needs to to to achieve his goals.

Never tried MJ on my WM devices yet, although I did previously have SJPhone WM software configured to use my Broadvoice home phone line when I travel.

It actually worked pretty well (even worked so-so on EDGE data networks, although with frequent hiccups), but it was a battery HOG.

In short, you could do this if all you want is to make a casual phone call, but I wouldn't leave it on.
