Numerous Magic Jacks "Unavailable"
A couple days ago a few people called me that evening saying that they had been trying to reach me for hours. We both thought that it was a temporary network error, but the next day I decided to test my MJ line and that's when I discovered that it was MJ that had the problem.
Unfortunately, the problem isn't just with my MJ line but I discovered that a few other people in my area who have MJ were coming up as 'unavailable' or busy as well.
The odd thing is that when I plug either of my two MJs in I can make calls but the network is unavailable to receive calls.
Call your MJ lines and see what you get.

ick: Hello, how may I help you?
im: Hello I was speaking with gem a few minutes ago
ick: Please wait while I check that for you
ick: Thank you for waiting
ick: I apologize but gem is busy with other customers.
ick: May I try to troubleshoot for your problem ?
im: it seems that my area's network is down. I have two MJ accounts & two of my friends have accts as well and NONE of them can receive calls
ick: Ok
ick: Please wait while I check that for you
ick: Please click the link to download and run the magicJack upgrade (applicable for both XP & Vista):
ick: http://upgrades.magicjack.com/upgrade/upgrade.exe
im: I did that already with Gem
im: I formatted my drive
ick: Please try it once again with me
im: I rebooted my pc
im: and I've installed the upgrade 3 times now
ick: Ok
ick: Open task manager (control+alt+delete) and click the tab named ‘Processes’. Locate and end the following processes: UTSCSI, NEWNET_SETUP, MAGICJACK, and MAGICJACKLOADER. If one or several of these are not listed, do not worry. Now unplug your magicJack, wait 15 seconds, and plug it back in.
im: i coud do what u asked but let me ask you this 1st
ick: Ok
im: if someone calls my MJ line shouldn't it go to voicemail or be forwarded if that's enabled whether the softphone is running or not? So why would software fixes correct this problem?
ick: Yes, that is correct
What a response.

It also doesn't allow for the kind of opinion I would express, which is a combination of two answers. I love it for its price-performance potential, which it sometimes yields. But, I'm looking to *augment* it with other services.mberlant wrote:This belongs in "Rants and Raves" or "The Lounge".

See the MagicJack Wiki (FAQ, How-To, history and more).
Well it seemed like not being able to receive any calls would be a technical issue.mberlant wrote:This belongs in "Rants and Raves" or "The Lounge".

I would say that you have some good technical knowledge. What could be stopping 4 MJs in the same region to be 'unavailable'? Is MJ overloading their system to keep cost down or something?az2008 wrote:It also doesn't allow for the kind of opinion I would express, which is a combination of two answers. Just about anything in the rants/raves and reviews section could be considered related to a technical issue. The poll seeks user sentiment which isn't a technical issue.r3sidual wrote:Well it seemed like not being able to receive any calls would be a technical issue.mberlant wrote:This belongs in "Rants and Raves" or "The Lounge".
Heck, I've seen people post tech support questions to the "hacks" section, and then go ballistic when this is pointed out because they were seeking "tips and tricks" to solve a technical support problem. I guess anything could be put anywhere. A rant against Obama could be put in the rant/raves section because the economy is leading more people to use MJ and rant/rave about it.

True the poll is unrelated to any technical issues. The real technical issue is not being able to receive any calls.az2008 wrote: Just about anything in the rants/raves and reviews section could be considered related to a technical issue. The poll seeks user sentiment which isn't a technical issue.

all these problems are NOT the dongle or computer it's on
I can say for sure it's the magicjack servers.
I tried my WiFi phone with the MJ SIP info and the same problems show...
this receiving calls not working , the beeping mentioned in another thread, and another problem just noticed by me, not using the dongle or computer to test the service,
... not going to HOLD and back to the original call, or being able to "flash" the line to the incoming call from call waiting, and back again from the WiFi phone, using standard SIP control to do it from the dedicated phone buttons.
i can flash to HOLD and the other person hears music, but can't get the caller back off from HOLD using the same button on the phone, ... same for call-waiting, and the phone button to flash the line (SEND) should put the first caller on HOLD and answer the new call coming in, but it just puts the first caller on 'music on hold' but doesn't connect the second incoming call, then i can't get the original first caller back, with either HOLD time.
so, it's not the dongle or computer or software ... it's the service!
