Using Magic Jack to talk with son in afghanistan
My son is being deployed again to Afghanistan. He will be gone a whole year . They told him that he won't be able to come home for a visit this time. So, I was thinking of getting him a Magic Jack so that we could talk. Has anyone out there done this, and how did it work?

I don't know if that will be possible any more. When I was working on the local Air Force base here last year, the Army instituted a world-wide ban on USB devices that contained any type of storage because of a rampant virus that was causing a lot of damage. I don't believe that ban has been lifted. Ask your son to check on the status of that ban.
Possible issue?
You might run into an issue with MJ if the military is using satellite transmissions for state side voice communication. MJ doesn't work well with satellite communications because of the latency.
I sure hope it will work for you and God bless you and your son.
