Maybe a solution for some of us users

Post by corvette dave »

I had mj for 3 weeks and it worked fine. Then about 10 days ago it wouldn't let me make or receive calls. The outgoing calls would ring on the other end but I couldn't hear the ringing and the people on the other end couldn't hear me. I might get 1 of 10 calls to complete. Many similar problems on this forum seemed to start about the same time as mine started. Mj was useless so I took it back to BestBuy and got another one. Same problems with the new one.
My internet provider speed was 1.2mbps so I upped the speed to 8mbps. They changed the speed within a few minutes and the mj started working again. That was a week ago and it has worked fine since.
All outgoing calls I have made have gone through and the incoming calls are working fine.
There is an occasional fade on my end but not often. I used the mj about 2 hours today and it worked well.
Can some of you techies explain this to me?

I doubt the bandwidth upgrade from your ISP was what fixed the problem, just happened to occur at the same time most likely. It does look like the cause for many of these problems lately may be due to swamped servers on their end because they haven't added enough new ones fast enough. Dan claims to be getting 250,000 new customers a month, and I highly doubt he has added server capacity as fast.

It is possible that there was a problem with your ISP and something changed in the upgrade fixed your MJ problem, but very unlikely, especially with so many reporting similar problems.

I agree - its not the bandwidth. I have run MJ over a 100K connection from Berlin Germany and it worked fine. The hotel gave me free 100K internet service or 20 euro/day 5M service. 100K was more than fine for email and the only question was would VOIP work. Both MJ and Skype worked fine.

I hear what you are saying but I couldn't make a call with mj for 1 week before the change in speed. I called (different phone) the cable provider and increased the speed. They did it instantly. I started making calls 5 minutes after the speed change and all has worked well since. I couldn't make a call 1 minute before I called the cable provider. Like has been said maybe there was an update when they changed the speed but that still doesn't explain why the mj worked perfectly the first 3 weeks I owned it and then it stopped.
