MJ works with the headset but does not work with my phone

Post by ranmj »

Am a new MJ user. Though i did my MJ registrations a while back on my laptop and did basic checks then and all worked fine. I took it to my parents' and only yesterday tried using it from there. I ran into a few issues for which i needed assistance:
1. I tried hooking up 2 different wired phones to the device. For an incoming call, the phone does not ring. The soft phone ui shows me the incoming call, and when i pick up the telephone handset, i am able to hear the caller, but the caller cannot hear me.
2. For making any outgoing call through the phone, the softphone shows dialling and the caller gets a call too but cannot hear me.
3. I was looking around the soft phone options and had an option to switch to headset mode. When i tried that, bingo!, i was able to make and receive phone calls using the soft phone without any issues. I could make calls and the recipient could hear me clearly.
I pinged tech support and they told me to first run upgrade..
While i get to doing that, can any of you help me on this as well?

Are you plugging the MJ into a USB port on your computer or into a USB hub? If it is a hub try plugging into a port on the back of your computer.

Are you using the USB extension cable that came with the MJ? If try without it.

What kind of phones are you trying to plug into the magic jack? Are they older phones, which may require a greater REN to ring the phones than what the MJ can support?

Kif, Thank you for your input and help. I just went back to basics and re-ran all the basic steps again. It turned out that my folks had not plugged in the phone wires correctly. Currently the issue is resolved and no am not using a usb hub and am not using the MJ provided usb extension cord either..

Thanks for your help..
