This worked fine on Vista32 and XP64 SP2, but utterly failed where i really need it -- on an XP32 SP3 machine.
This machine works fine with all kinds of USB devices. Plug in the MJ, and it failes to see the embedded drive, so doesn't find the drivers. Instead, it pops up with the driver search dialog. Allowing Windows to search the Windows Update site, it somehow finds a matching driver, but it fails to install, saying it is "missing an entry". And it probably is just an incorrect driver.
Hours on the phone today with MJ support resulted in a lot of frankly foolish suggestions... the guy could not understand the problem. He kept insisting the error "missing entry in INF file" meant a missing INF file, which it doesn't. He even wanted me to copy SP2 drivers from an AMD-based XP64 machine to my XP32 machine (Intel), which is phenomenally dumb. I refused, as I did when he started asking me to copy system files from Vista to XP32.
Basically, somehow the composite device is simply not recognized. Other devices, like hard drives, Palm Treo, MP3 player, all work fine.
Anybody seen this and solved this?
no install on XP32 SP3

no, but it wouldn't matter, because the flash drive embedded on the MJ is never even recognized. On other systems, first you see the drive, THEN it autoruns. No drive = no run. Can't even manually run the software... tried it. Stuck the MJ on another computer, copied off the contents of the drive, then ran it on the problem computer, with the MJ plugged in and lights on.murphy wrote:Do you have Autorun disabled on this machine?
The software thinks no MJ is even plugged in, so it can't update or install.
This is happening with me.. Using Vista. Worked perfect on XP with SP3.
I tried this on 3 different computers. 2 with Vista and 1 with XP. Only the XP computer recognized the Magicjack and automatically the software installed.
I even went and reformatted one of the Vista computers from scratch.. and still the software would not run. When I go to the newel assigned drive.. Which is the magicjack drive… I find the folder empty.
What is going on here… /?
Any idea…? Thank you

no install fixed
Ok, so here's what i found on XP
There is a file, usb.inf, normally found in Windows\INF. Apparently it can go missing for a variety of reasons, and composite devices will not be understood.
I cannot speak for Vista, but look into this.
