Does ATA Help MJ?

Post by oldtimercurt »

I've read virtually all posts on most of the forums. I see a lot of people using/trying various and sundry ATA. I've been running MJ on a TC dedicated to MJ. I've captured my credentials and tried other softphone (x-lite). Still, I've not been able to achieve and sustain voice quality that passes my wife's QC. As mberlant pointed out to me in a PM it is "... impossible to replicate Ma Bell's 99.9999% availability and clarity record."

QUESTION: For those running on an ATA, has your call quality and reliability significantly improved over using MJ as intended?

I would suspect you have an inconsistent 'net connection. Just for yuks, try these VOIP aware line quality tests...

look hard at the extended details for obvious hints yout ISP is the root of the call quality issues. Look for high latency, jitter, and constrained bandwidth. All these issues may not be apparent immediately but usually rear their ugly heads during a 24 hour cycle. If you get a particularly gruesome call quality, pop to these sites to get a read if its the result of inadequacies on your ISP circuit.

Good luck
