Good deal on a T5700

Post by barkndog »

I just got a HP T5700 T5000 Thin Client 1GHZ/256F/256R XPE for $50 + 18s/h on ebay. From looking around, it seemed like a good deal. At the time of this posting the seller had 7 left, Here's the link if anyone is interested.

It'll probably take a while to ship, but when it gets in I'm sure I'll be frequenting this forum.

good deal on t5700

The t5700 with 1ghz processor works very well with MJ. I have had mine working for about a month and so far the results have been excellent. I got it on ebay for $64 plus $24 for shipping from a Canadian source. I updated my unit with 1 GB flash and 512 MB ram and installed Team viewer 4 so I won't have to keep a keyboard, mouse, and monitor attached. The thin client instructions on this forum made it easy for even someone like myself who never touched one before. This forum is a great source of information for the MJ and related equipment.

Is it difficult to upgrade the flash and RAM? Or is it like a PC or laptop where you just snap it in?

Do you have a link to the flash and RAM modules you used? I would think 256/256 would work if it's MJ only, but I'd like the flexibility to tinker with other applications if I want.

Also, after I ordered the unit, I've read that the USB ports on a T5700 are v1.1. Is that true? If so, does that affect the MJ in any way?

Upgrading the flash and ram was quite easy using the pictures and instructions on this forum. The process is very similar to changing ram in a regular desktop pc. There are just 2 screws to remove to open the t5700 case. I used a generic pc2700 512 Mb ram module that I had left over from a laptop upgrade. I ordered a 1 Ghz flash module from Transcend as suggested in this forum. I don't think the usb version makes that much difference (1.1 or 2.0) relative to MJ performance. I have my tc plugged into an inexpensive Trendnet router. The voice quality seems to be as good as that of my ATT landline. I tried the MJ on several different Pentium HP laptops and an HP Celeron Deskop using the wireless mode. The MJ seems to perform much better when the host pc is connected directed rather than wireless. I also experienced some of the same dropped call problems as others have reported when I hooked up my first MJ. Looking back, it appears the problems were more related to MJ servers than anything on my end. MJ engineering have apparently corrected these problems as my system is running 24/7 without any new complaints. But I have my fingers crossed....lol
