Audio quality questions
I have contacted MJ techs twice regarding audio breaking up as well as echo and delay. I am on broadband and I have tried all they suggested without success. Does anyone out there understand enough about these problems to suggest anything? Thanks

If you have a bunch of programs running all the time in the background, that can cause problems with audio break up. Also if someone is downloading a lot of files on your network, like torrents or p2p file sharing. Otherwise more info about your computer and what is on it is required to help you further, so tell us what OS you have, what other things you have running, any firewalls or antivirus, etc, etc.
Same issue here
Break up is terrible on mine also. I did the speed test and got a different score each time - is that normal? I have about 21403 down and 2142 up, wiht 10ms ping What can I do to fix the delay?
Thanks.
Thanks.

21kbps downstream and 2kbps upstream are not nearly enough to support a VoIP conversation. You need 80kbps in each direction (64kbps payload + 16kbps control) for each simultaneous conversation. 10ms ping (to MJ's server, I must presume) is a wonderful ping time. I enjoy excellent call quality with ping times well over 200ms, so that should not be a factor for you.LKLJ0920 wrote:I have about 21403 down and 2142 up, wiht 10ms ping

that's probably supposed to be 21403kb and 2142kb (plenty!).mberlant wrote:21kbps downstream and 2kbps upstream are not nearly enough to support a VoIP conversation. I had very choppy audio, losing every other word. I tried every fix: powered USB, shut off firewall, shut off anti-virus, new phone, giving priority to magicJack, etc. & nothing worked.
I have excellent Internet speed with broadband cable.
Finally, I ran this tool which measures a bunch of things including packet Loss. My Packet Loss was 50-68%!. I unhooked my router & hooked straight to the modem - 0% Packet Loss & no more choppy audio. So I went & bought a new router - D-Link 655 & everything is perfect - 0% Packet Loss & excellent audio! Problem solved!

Which D-Link 655 you purchase, I did a search online and found about 5 D-Link 655 devices..yechi7 wrote:I had very choppy audio, losing every other word. I tried every fix: powered USB, shut off firewall, shut off anti-virus, new phone, giving priority to magicJack, etc. & nothing worked.

Chopped up voice
I have the same problem with my Magicjack but only when I am running Vista. The voice from the person I am talking to skips or stutters and breaks up.I did download that program and ran the test I had no packet drops on upstreem but my Downstream was very high 82.4 ms.I am using Earthlink via Brighthouse cable (roadrunner)now when I login to Win XP I dont have any problems. And this only happens if I am doing something on the PC like surfing the web while using the MJ.My PC is a dual boot system with XP Pro and Vista Home Premuim 2.8 P4 1 gig or ram.I am using a router it is a dlink wbr2310.I have not tried direct connect I will try later as right now wife is on phone LOL
P.S I have also treid everthing that the MJ chat had suggested.I will come back and let you know if direct connect works better.

I dont have a problem till I do something on the PC.Like open a web page open a program it does not matter when the PC is doing something for that 10 to 30 seconds there is a stuuter in talking. Now I had no problem when I was running Win XP it worked like a charm no complants. This is the same PC I had XP on nothing has changed but the Operating system.I have turned off vista Areo and I am running Vista Basic.did not help at all.The only thing that I have not tried iss the powered USB hub that the MJ tech chat told me I had to do.Now let me tell you a story.I bought the MJ 1 year ago I had nothing but problems with it.I have 6 onboard USb ports and a add in PCI card with 5 USB ports.the only ports the old MJ would work in was the PCI card.I could not get it to work in the other ports. And it was the same in Vista as it was in XP then. Now after the replacement MJ it works in all ports no problem at all.Plus with the old MJ on Vista it was worse than it is now (the stuttering that is) So I really have no idea as to way it stutters.I just hope after the ram and powered USB Hub it works.if not that is no big deal I just wont use the PC when I or someone else is using the PC.
