V-Phone USB Stick

Post by govt »

Haven't seen this on the forum so I thought I'd share that I have mj running on a v-phone usb stick which allows me to go from pc to pc without installing the software (runs off the stick) and the portability of only needing the usb stick and the set of earbuds that came with the v-phone. Everything fits in the shirt pocket.

Is this the Vonage version?
Where there any tricks to enter the the MJ information?
Thanks in advance,

Yes I am using the vonage orange stick.
I prepped the mj software to run without the mj dongle using instructions found on this forum then formatted the stick using this link:

Then fired it up! Works great!

Great,
Thanks for the link.
I just ordered one off e-bay, $18.67 delivered.

Code: Select all

Did you do all the hacking in Windows, or was Linux used as well?

So it's nothing more than USB sound card+usb flash drive combo. Most people will be fine by just putting the mjusb folder on a flash drive then use the headphone/mic jack in the computer.

I see a benefit to having the sound card and flash card on the same dongle. When plugging the dongle into a 'borrowed' PC in a net cafe, customer's office, friend's home, etc., you:
- don't have to hunt for buried connectors.
- don't have to remove the already-attached speakers to plug in your headphone.
- don't have to (re)configure your MJ client to choose the correct audio device.
- don't have to put everything back the way it was when you are done.

Cool,
Thanks for the tip govt, it worked out perfectly, even though the guide doesn't fully explain the Linux part...
A small annoyance is that I'm not sure how to set the drive in my shortcut, this must change on each computer I hook it up to.

Code: Select all

"F:\mjusbsp\magicJack.exe" /foreground /scf _magicJackPersonalDataRoot "F:\magicJack"
Can I somehow skip the drive letter completely, and just guide it to %cd%\mjusbsp\..., or *:\mjusbsp\...?

I haven't experimented with loosing the drive letter. I move between (3) PC's and they are all set to E: Let me know what you find out.
Glad you got it going. On the PC's that have bluetooth, I'm using a BT earpiece. This is a slick setup!

Also, just for clarification, you should be able to store the settings for any VoIP softphone on this device.

I just set up a v-phone adapter(orange one) today following the links info above. I skipped the linux part completely.

1.) I downloaded ChipGenius to verify that I was working with same chip.
I found an older version here that worked for me.
http://mympxplayer.org/tool-chipgenius- ... df883.html

2.) Downloaded the Alcor UFD manufacturer program. look for the little box under the description but above the comments area that looks kinda like this "Cka4aTb" thats the download button and it needs a second or so too start the download.
http://flashboot.ru/index.php?name=File ... ile&lid=78

3.) I had my V-Phone plugged in-Run the program and then it should put an icon on your desktop(I needed to reboot also), dbl click that icon and then I just hit "Low Level Format" It displays 2 drives, but only formatted the first one for me(and I waited a good 15 more minutes after it seemed to be done). The red text that says "Waiting for Disk Coming" never went away for me. I would give it a few more minutes(no idea but i like to play it safe) after it reaches the end of the format becasue it never said finished or anything like that for me.

4.) Go into Disk Management and format the drive to just FAT. Seems like there might have been another step in there, but I can't remember if there was or not(sorry wasn't planning on posting anything but it was kinda hard for me to figure out all the links and russian text so i figured maybe my experience help someone else out)

5.) Now to get the MJ on the v-phone, this is all quoted from another thread but it's the instructions I used. Don't forget to change the headset\phone options in the main menu to the c-media device before calling.
johnnyboy wrote:Here's how to use the magicJack service without plugging in the dongle...

1.plug in the magicJack dongle
2.copy the "magicJack" folder from the magicJack drive to a drive on the harddrive
for example, "C:\magicJack"
3.[optional, but so it would be available for any user, and easier to access] copy the
"mjusbsp folder somewhere else
for example, "C:\mjusbsp"
4.if no shortcut to magicJackLoader.exe, make one
5.open the properties page for the shortcut (right-click shortcut...properties)
6.replace the "Target" entry with:
"C:\mjusbsp\magicJack.exe" /foreground /scf _magicJackPersonalDataRoot "C:\magicJack"
(using drive letters for the drives the folders were copied to)
(notice the use of "magicJack.exe" rather than "magicJackLoader.exe"
7.put "C:\mjusbsp" in the "Start in" entry
8.using msconfig, disable the "cdloader2" entry in the Startup tab

start magicJack from the shortcut

for updates, plug in the dongle periodically to let updates occur and re-copy the folders...
I also put the shortcut I created on the root of my v-phone adapter and then just have to change the drive letters when you plug it into someone else's computer. I tried using the %cd% instead of the drive letters so I wouldn't have to change it when i switched computers but that didn't work for me. If someone figures out how to do this plz let me know. thnx!
